Question Cliamate control question

Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum as I recently purchased a Fiat Tempra 93 (1600, carburetor).

I posted a question yesterday morning to the Tipo forum (My car has a Tipo engine so it was an honest mistake) which should probably have been posted here, so here it is.

Whenever I start the car the electronic climate control/air-conditioning system turns on (literally on the fan starts blowing etc.) with the following settings: Fully automatic (both LEDs near the auto button are on), economy light on, temperature at 24 degrees, and air distribution directed to the windshield.
This is regardless of what the system was set to when the car was last shut down.

As far as I can understand from my experience with other cars the normal behavior of the system should be:
1. Be in the off state whenever the car is started (and not start blowing air the minute the car starts).
2. If I then press the off button the system should start working with the previous settings it was set to when the car was last shut down.

Can somebody who has an electronic control system tell me how it behaves in their car?

P.S.

I gave a more detailed description of the question in the Tipo forum at http://fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=22988

Thanks,
Benjamin

Re: Cliamate control question

ammmm Generally If u unplug The battery it would "reset" the electronic air condiding system and put it to it's default state.
and when u start the car it starts automaticlly.

i mean that maybe your bettery not plugged good or somthing.

Re: Cliamate control question

Thanks for your reply TEMPRA_92.

Can I understand from your reply that the normal behavior of the system is indeed as follows:

1. Be in the off state whenever the car is started (and not start blowing air the minute the car starts).
2. If I then press the off button the system should start working with the previous settings it was set to when the car was last shut down.

???????

All I am looking for is a description of the normal system behavior upon startup. Anybody who has such a system in their car should be able to answer me.

I hope the scarcity of replies I got is not because I offended somebody.

Re: Cliamate control question

The normal behaviour of the air-system is when you start the car it won't work by itself(i've never turned it off with the air con' working) but normally its suppose to keep your last settings.

you checked your bettery connectors?

Re: Climate control question

Great. Now that I know how it is supposed to behave I may be able to start fixing it.

I checked the battery connections they are fine.

The control system had a blown integrated circuit, and quite a few mechanics (who know nothing about electronics) didn't know it and probably tried to fix it by playing with the external wiring.

I will try and see what they did, now that I know they did something wrong.

Thanks again,
Benjamin

P.S. Did you check your fuel pump yet?

Don't blame the cars - It seems you don't pick your mechanics carefully enough...

For reference I have just disposed of an Audi, before that a VW - both gave me nothing but grief and service bills at 65 per hour... at least with these cars I can do the bulk of the work myself and when I can't, FIAT engineers are reasonably priced.

It will take a lot to make me buy another german car...

Re: Cliamate control question

There will be a fused live feed somewhere that will alow the climate control to keep it "memory" and another switched spur from the ignition that acutally switches the thing on. My monmey is on there being a porblem with the permanent live - check the fuse box as your first port of call then get the multimeter out and start looking at the wiring to the back of the climate control unit...

...either that or just live with the fault...

Re: Cliamate control question

Hi Ben.
My system is working again.
I have checked it reference your thread and mine remembers the last setting I put it to each time the car has been swithched off. I set it to 23 on auto before leaving the car overnight. Still at the same setting next morning.

I have posted an explanation of how I sorted (ha ha) mine out on my original post.
I do hope this is of help to you.

Stuart

Re: Cliamate control question

Hi Stuart,

I am glad your system is working again.
Thanks for remembering my question!

Two more clarification if you do not mind.

1. When you start your car does the air conditioning comes on immediately with your previous settings or is it dormant until you to turn it on by pressing the off button?

2. When you turn the ignition off (just before you exit the car and go home :-)), do all the lights on the air conditioning unit go off or is the little green light near the off button stays on?

Thanks again,
Benjamin

Re: Cliamate control question

Ben

Answers.
1. If the unit has been on say on auto at 23deg and I turn the car off, it will automatically come back on to that setting when I start the car again.

2. When ignition is turned off and key taken out all the lights are out. Nothing lit.

Hope this helps.

Stu

Re: Cliamate control question

Thanks a lot Stuart.

Now that I know how the system should behave I suspect that probably when the Immobilizer was installed they changed the wiring by mistake in such a way that all power to the climate control is lost when the ignition is off (hence no memory).

I will go over all the wiring carefully and see if I can find out what they did.

I will probably not be able to do in the next two or three weeks but I will let you know how it turned out when I do.

Benjamin

Just a thought but I would start at the plug I described in my other post. You never know.
