Hello!

Would it be possible to use Tempra 1800 brake discs on a 1600 model? I suppose some other parts need to be changed, but what are them? I think about the calipers, and brake pads of course. Is the brake pump the same between the two models?

They use different calipers, discs and pads. Brake master cylinder is different too however you can always see how it performs?

I checked on ePER and it seems that 1.8 master cylinder has the same part number (793266) of the 1.6 version if without antiskid (what is this?).
Another concern is, usually 1.8 Tempras have ABS while my 1.6 hasn't. Being ABS something controlled by its own ECU (as far as I know), the calipers should work fine also on cars without ABS, or they won't?

I will have to check if I can find good spare parts from a scrapyard and start studying them, I think brake power would be boosted a lot.

Should one change rear drums too (bigger on 1.8) or keeping 1.6 ones isn't a major issue?

My old 1.6IE had the ABS calipers fitted from new. It always caused a problem when I went to get new pads as the spare parts shop did not know this was possible and always sold me the wrong ones.

The pads are marginally bigger so braking is a bit better.

So you had ABS calipers but actually didn't have ABS? Strange indeed.

corect me if iam wrong but aint the 1800 vented?? cos the 1.6 are solid and they are a different size set-up... the 1.4 and 1.6 are the same as are the 1.8 and 2.0...

No they aren't vented. They are 257 mm diameter instead of 240 mm, 12 mm thick instead of 11 mm. Don't know about the 2.0 Tempras, never seen one here.

1800 discs and calipers should fit on a 1600, i don´t know anyone who tried it yet. but should work fine for what i´ve heard.

ps:2 liter versions, in the case of the brazil made tempras have vented discs

All the brakes except 16V are interchangeable. You can fit any calipers allong with their discs. Master cylinders are the same except ABS, however the ABS cylinder bore is still the same, piping is different.
