Fault Code associated with keys

I have a 2005 Fiat Ducato converted by Murvi to a Morello campervan. recently my engine management warning light came on. I carried out a diagnostic check using a Foxwell NT530 and it returned results which pointed to the key.

It was a fault code 04 which translated refers to 'battery voltage to low or intermittent. It was the same for both keys.

I have cleared the fault and the warning light is off, but the fault code keeps returning on subsequent scans.

The keys in question are type A, ie they do not have the remote control function, which is on a separate unit.

Do these keys have batteries? Are they straightforward to replace if needed? as both are the same age, I guess both should be replaced if that is the case.

Any thoughts anyone.

Re: Fault Code associated with keys

Hi

Non remote keys are unlikely to have batteries

Is the immobiliser : key-lock symbol behaving cottectly?

With your mention of other dash icons .. I suspect it is a wiring issue

Re: Fault Code associated with keys

2005 should be OBD2, so there should be a lot more to the fault code than just '04'.

Apparently..
Commercials didnt adopt it until 2007

This was mentioned elsewhere this week on FF

@murvisteve

If you had a 16 pin diagnostic port within the cab

Look at MultiECUScan

There is even a list of members who offer a plug.in service

Re: Fault Code associated with keys

Derv cars were compliant in 2004

Petrol 2002 IIRC

Basically older FIATS has a 3.pin under the bonnet..

IF you have something resembling an old video SCART socket in the cab

It SHOULD be OBD2

Far better set.up

Re: Fault Code associated with keys

A recent diagnostic test returned the following results:

Delphi code 2 electronic key (FIAT_ISO1) fault code 04. This translates to: Battery voltage, Value too low, intermittant.

I assume this refers to the key battery, however I have type A keys which are passive ie no batteries. So I am puzzled as to why that fault keeps showing up. It is the same response for both keys.

Another response that i get is this:

Bosch 5.3 ASR ABS (Bosch2) - No response to the requests for codes.

This is also odd, the ASR ABS runs through it's self test and all lights are then extinguished, with no further fault indication. For some reason the tester is not establishing a link to this particular module. Note: The tester I am using is a Foxwell NT 530 specifically programmed for Fiat and for use in pre 2007 commercial vehicles.

At the moment the engine management light is off with no other fault indication and all systems seem to work as normal and no problem starting.

Any suggestions for either response.

Is the van immobile due to this?

But you obviously want somebody 5 miles away

Re: Fault Code associated with keys

The van ran ok with the MIL on and seems to run ok now that I have cleared it although I haven't yet taken it for a long run. There is certainly no issue with starting and no more alarms as yet.

We love our Murvi having owned it for just over 4 years, it has taken us to Greece and back a couple of times. I also had it remapped recently and that has made a huge difference especially when encountering hills.

I will take for a run at some point and see what happens. Thanks for your advice though. I have been thinking of getting the MultiECUScan package but I wanted something more portable rather that having to carry a laptop around with me.
