Hi all my first post and and straight in with a problem , 64 plate fiat 500 dual logic when engine cold and car changes from 2-3 I get a little crunch but when warm it clears and changes fine and smooth , question is is there any common faults that I could check I’m mechanically minded as work on forktruck gearboxes regulary cheers in advance

Hi :)

There is a MASSIVE duologic failure thread on here..

Ok..
It has a Robot operating the clutch and gear lever of a conventional manual

It has special fluid ..in its own reservoir

This can slowly leak away.. so check level

It can also require purging of air

Does the pump run every time you open drivers door.. that is it Priming

No priming could make your difference

Tell us more.. Charlie

Thank you for your reply the pump runs every time , the oils were changed a couple of months ago including both gear oils everything runs sweet other than this slight pick up from 2-3 3-4 I’ve now been told of the missus just wondering weather to stick a clutch in it ?

I drove the car last night and fault disappeared when warm her indoors has confirmed its doing it when hot now sorry for the misleading info

More conflicting evidence she’s just come back in and said gearbox warning light chimed up once and gone off what type of scanner would give me anymore info would a Snapon solus do the job ?

We’ve owned the car over a year it’s got 34k on it , I changed the oils myself just as a precaution hope this helps

Crunching between gears on a Dualogic is usually down to one of these 3:
A) Leaking fluid
B) Knackered clutch
C) Gearbox (not actuator) problem.

If it's not leaking Actuator fluid the cars history is the next place to look.

At that mileage, B & C are unlikely but possible...

Are you sure the gearbox oil was the correct grade? Wrong grade will cause the same problems as on a standard manual.

(I'm making an assumption that you used Tutela CS-Speed fluid for the actuator.)

Was the previous driver trying to drive it like a conventional automatic? That will kill the clutch pretty quickly.

I asked because there have been a few questions on here from people who have bought a Dualogic with existing problems (i.e didn't own the car when the problem started.)
Nearly impossible to give useful advice, as no information on what things have been done. And it's usually those "things done" which have broken it.

PS: I have a Dualogic Panda with about 120k miles on which sometimes clunks or crunches between 2nd and 3rd, although usually only on cold mornings. I tend to put it in Eco mode when cold and it seems to be a bit less prone to clunking or crunching. Works just fine otherwise.

It's not got any worse in the 30k miles that I have known the car. No actuator or gearbox leaks and it just keeps going.

I haven't done anything about it yet, but I'm probably going to change the clutch at some point this summer to see if that improves it.
If I can find a good spare gearbox I might swap that at the same time.

Hi thanks for the reply , the car was purchased from the First Lady owner with full fsh the oil I used in the solonoid part was Fully synthetic scf oil , no faults at time of purchase and done 5k ish in it , we tried eco mode but still does it , the fact that the periodic gearbox fault appears worry’s me .

If it were the clutch would the warning keep popping up ?

As for purging the system I may have made a rookie mistake I just left it running in neutral for a while then selected 1 2 reverse and all been good .
The oil was mpm shift control fluid (scf) .
I’ll check fault codes tomorrow and get back

Not totally sure what SCF fully synthetic is, but the only fluid that I know of that should be used is Tutela CS-Speed fluid, available from FIAT and some other sources. Not cheap, but you only need a 1 litre bottle.
If that's not what's in it, you may well end up with leaking actuator seals, split accumulator diaphragm or failed pump.
The correct routine to replace the fluid requires connection to a computer - either FIAT Examiner or MultiECUScan.

What oil did you fill the gearbox with? (not the robot)

My brother is a car parts rep he’s been to the mpm factory and apparently it’s genuine or oils rebranded believe it or not as I had the same conversation about the oil for my discovery as I would only put oe spec oils in as for the gear box oil I’ll look for the receipt as I can’t remember but mpm again .
