MES is looking for a simple USB/RS232/level-shifter interface. As I said before, no harm in trying them though. The VAG K-CAN COMMANDER cable almost certainly won't work. To be honest at about £15 for a ELM-327 lead on ebay it's hardly worth bothering with the KL leads as they won't do CAN. You need CAN for proxi alignment, the instrument cluster and body computer. The free version of MES will do all the engine stuff, including service reset, and ABS (need adaptor 1) on the your van and let you look at basic CAN info. Due to your vans age (between all KL and all CAN) you will need a KL lead (and adaptor 2) to look at the air-bags though.

HTH,
Robert G8RPI.
Thanks. I think I will just bite the bullet and go with the ebay link.

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

In my cars I use multiecuscan only with ELM327 interface and the three adapters.
But for your car, OBDKey 1.40 with its adapters seems to be the most complete interface.
Multiecuscan is a great software really...sometimes I did MORE with it than some mechanics with their professional diagnosis...

OBDKey is a good multi-protocol interface, but is a little more expensive than a pair of ELM-327 and KL interfaces. The OP will still need the adaptor cables for his Doblo. With the ODBkey you are getting a manufacturers product rather than a Chinese no-name unit which may be important to some.

Robert G8RPI.

I repeat: I use only ELM327 with Croma, 500, Alfa 159 and also my aunt's Punto mk3.
I said what I said because, if you go on multiecuscan site - supported vehicles, you can see that for DoblÚ type 223:
Autoliv MY99 Airbag (1F-2P) |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL 3OBDKey 3 A2
Autoliv MY99 Airbag (2F-2P-2L-I) |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL 3OBDKey 3 A2
Autoliv MY99 Airbag (2F-2P-I) |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL 3OBDKey 3 A2

So no ELM for this functions...
For that Car, ODBkey is the unique interface that does all.

Only for that reason....

I'm a supporter of ELM and also he can do almost all diagnostic tasks with that (and adapters) on the DoblÚ....

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

Hi Albyhf,

I agree with your comments about OBDkey, I was just pointing out that it may be cheaper, but less convienet to buy both an ELM-327 and a KL interface. The OP's Doblo is a transition vehicle with some older modules that use a Fiat specic variant of KL (that the ELM chip can't do) like the airbag as you say, and some CAN only modules, like the instruments and body computer that a KL interface can't do. OBDkey is around 80 Euros, a pair of ELM-327 AND KL leads are around half that.
There is also the Multiecuscan MULTIPLEXED option that is 220 Euro. This is a single interface that needs no adaptors (other than 3 pin for old cars).

Regards,
Robert G8RPI.
