Rear brake MOT failure

Hi, i hav a 96' mk1 1.1 punto, it just failed its MOT on both rear brakes, iv not had time to look at it yet so thought id ask for advice that might help when i come to it. Do the rear wheel-cylinders seize on these cars? Will it have a load-sensing valve? Any advice would help, thanks.

Re: Rear brake MOT failure

Rear wheel cylinders for most cars are pretty cheap so seized or not doesn't really matter at this stage

The important thing it to establish if there is any material left on the shoes my guess would be probably not

Re: Rear brake MOT failure

i'd remove drums check meat on shoes, if ok remove clean and refit, check auto adjust is working, if not adjust by hand. if not ok fit new shoes and cylinders at the same time, it a real pisser if a cylinder starts leaking after fitting new shoes, you have to chuck them away and start again.

Re: Rear brake MOT failure

Cheers mate. I had a look at the brakes at the weekend, both cylinders were seized, the drums and linings were good, i fit new cylinders, bled 1, good brake now on that wheel...however, upon doing the other 1, passenger side, i couldnt get any pressure what so ever on the pedal to bleed it! The pot is full of fluid and not dropping upon pressing the pedal, i think its obviously a master-cylinder problem, the seals i presume, some1 has told me to back-bleed it saying it will push the seals back, has any1 tried this?

Can't see it working. The seals are either good or not (black fluid indicates they're certainly not). Master cylinders are cheap.
