could this help the judder problem? if its supplying more revs at low speed?

i know what you mean by Judder mine did this until i stopped using BP and changed to Shell it runs great now, and i thought it was my driving!!

I leave the 'City' button on all the time. I think it's a terrible shame that people out there are avoiding the use of such features so as not to wear them out...

Anyway I see no advantage in the steering being artificially 'heavy'. It doesn't help the wheels grip the road any better.

The steering on the Stilo (by TRW) works by a manual steering rack having an electric motor in the steering column. So much simpler than a hydraulic system & pump... It's brilliant and makes you wonder why someone didn't try this a very long time ago. The Mk2 Punto had a similar system but I think they turned down the assistance a little for the Stilo and managed to insulate the motor better, so it's not quite so exciting :)

Agree, You dont need to feel the road through the steering, you feel it in the seat of your pants if its starting to slide, I leave it on all the time.

Even seen some staff almost wet themselves though to find it on if they have to go up the road for a test drive.:D

City Drive question

Was wondering the other day....If I drive with City Drive on all the time does this effect the car or the cars performance?

I know its supposed to be for parking manoevering but have always loved it on all the time, and now and then will turn it off if I go on the Motorway.

Any information would be great and I can if I'm doing something bad I can change my bad habits or just carry on driving without worrying. LOL

Cheers

Re: City Drive question

It will switch its self off at speed its only for parking..after some failures with the duel logic power steering in the panda section I'm beginning to see a pattern developing ..use it and the unit is failing and don't use it and the unit doesn't and for that reason I don't use it..not that its even needed on the new panda cos the car is sooooo light anyway..

Mine does not switch off at speed either.
Is that a feature they added later to stop the motor burning out from being used all the time.
In the past I have heard about it failing if it is over used, it could be only on heavy cars like the JTD or Abarth though.

Myself: I never use it as steering is very light anyway.

Re: City Drive question

City display will stay on the dash but wont operate over certain speeds ..will kick back in again when you drop below 30/40 mph.. bad habit though if you ask me and your asking for a burn out and a bill of huge proportions..£600 + for the unit and labour + no Christmas pressies this year for you..

It doesn't switch off as such but the assistance is disabled at speed (anything over 40 I believe) and as you say it removes what precious little road feel the Stilo provides. It also increases the load on the front wheels (if you hit a kerb) whilst parking so, rather ironically, that's another reason I don't use it.

However, I'm led to believe it improves the slow running characteristic of the engine (for city driving) so that might be a reason to try it :chin:

Noooooooooooo.. only wussy button user is Decks ..dont go there..:nono:

Re: City Drive question

decks posted once that there IS a performance difference with it on/off, and he posted a graph too if i remember correctly.

i was going to ask about this, see if there really IS a "characteristical" difference, could it be "mapped"?
