All of a sudden my steering has started to feel really light and i have no idea what the cause of this is.
It feels as if the 'city' button has been activated and this is really badly affecting being able to drive the car. When i put on the city button and take it off it feels like theres no difference what so ever...it was never like this before and its worrying.

Does anyone know what the cause of this is? And how it can be resolved... my car is brand new... about 2500 miles.. so i have no idea what it could be!

please help!

Cant think what could be wrong but if your car is new then take it back to them you have a warranty just for things like this (y)

If you have the city button on, when you go over 10mph it sould deactivate and then come back on when you go back under 10mph.
Not sure if this is the same all stilo's though, mine's a 04 active MW.

I know it did'nt do it on my 2000 punto and if you drove at speed with it on you were all over the road.

Has it only happened recently? I've noticed, as has everyone else who has driven it, that the steering on my 1.6 Stilo is really light at motorway speeds, which can be rather disconcerting!
Always thought it was just the car, been used to driving bigger & heavier cars but maybe it's not?
You've got me worried now!

The fact that you have noticed a sudden change in the lightness with steering (Haven't just pumped up the tyres by any chance?) then you must take it back to the dealer and get it checked out.

City mode gives a greater assistance at slow speeds (below 20mph) but above that it should make no difference whether you're in CITY mode or not. The steering is speed sensitive so you should get less assistance with greater speeds so maybe there's something amiss with the speed sensing communicating with power steering system.

Whether in CITY mode or not, you should find no problem with steering at any speed on the Stilo, something is wrong if you do. Stilo steering is set up extremely nicely balanced

To correct the claim, the CITY level assistance (i.e. greater) becomes the normal assistance level at 40mph. However, "CITY" will remain on the display, and greater assistance will return at speeds below 40mph, all of which are speed sensitive.

thanks for the detailed correction rroope (y)
I sould have known better that to quote my best mate col  the car salesman's quality sales talk.

Sure did.

Even more so when your being towed without the engine running (because the gearbox is in bits) so you have no brakes either.

You always have the brakes back with the hand brake, didn´t you know?

And you are supose to tow the car with the front end raised, more when the transmision is broke. So who need steering then?

I'd be rather more concerned if the steering went heavey. Anyone driven a Stilo with failed power steering?
