My 1.8 Stilo Dynamic seems low geared to me. At 3000rpm the car is doing just over 60mph probabaly about 64mph. Is this the same in other 1.8`s ?
Any help appreciated......
Kind regards to all.

I haven't noticed the speed I'm having when I run at 3000 rpm, but I have noticed that I run with 120 km/h (the speed limit on the Swiss motorways) at 3500 rpm. I hope that this info helps you a bit :)

Thanks Grigoris it does help. It`s roughly the same as mine....but I do think it is low gearing, especially when you look at what Stiloboy is doing at 70mph which is nearly 120kph.
I suppose that explains why my car accelerates well on the motorway when cruising in 5th gear, does`nt help the fuel consumption figures though!!!!
Regards.

Hello, I found your comments about the gears being set a little low interesting. I’ve now got a Stilo 1.6/16v which to me seems geared low. I did have a 1.6/16v Brava until recently. The Stilo revs higher per mph than that ever did. I suspect this may be because the higher weight of Stilo’s to shift!

Hi

I've got 3000rpm in fifth and 60mph, it's a 1.6 16v, hope this helps!

The Abarth does about 3500rpm at 70mph (true speed) with speedo reading just under 80mph - rather conveniently the 2.4l engine develops maximum torque at 3500rpm :D

Ive read in AutoBild something about the Stilo transmition ... they say that its low and thats why when driving in cities you need to change gears a lot.

I find quite the opposite janevj, but I have a diesel which develops it's torque about 1500rpm.
