I have a 2002 5 dr stilo 1200 16v active

I have an error code of 1687 / 1684 on the ecu - does anyone no what they are? I have a funny feeling its the coil packs.

Its it better just to replace them all?

Many Thanks
Martin

the engine light is on and the car is revving to around 3000 then dropping slowly - i really think its a coil problem,

Also this car is having major battery drainage - starts one morning and not the next - its going once I get the car running again, as it has been nothing but trouble.

Is it worth replacing the coils? as no-one seems to no what the codes are.

It has also showed up with 0505 0606 & D600 or 0600.

Thanks for any help guys if help is out there lol - or does anyone need parts for a stilo as this one could be getting broken up soon ;-)

Well if you think its the coils then change them....why ask in the first place?

Who read the codes & on what type of code reader?

0505 - idle speed control system
0600 - CAN bus malfunction
0606 - PCM processor fault

However after diagnosing a stilo today with a faulty coil I can assure you it didnt rev up to 3000,far from it! Anyway do what you want.

Its a launch scanner.

It also idles very lumpy.

Any ideas what it could be? it only happened today when I started it

Thanks
Martn

I personally dont rate those type of scanners....handy yes but thats about it.

I would (if I was working on your car) start by resetting the parameters/carry out throttle learn phase & see if the throttle body/pressure sensor update is available for your car.

How old is the battery

Looked at deckchairs linkfor fault codes:-

P1684
Battery Loss In The Last 50 Starts
The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts. starts (status indicator only - NOT a reported fault code)

1687 is:-

P1687
No MIC BUS Message
No CCD/J1850 messages received from the Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) Module.

1684 is reporting a battery problem and I suspect this is then giving you 1687
Could be a naff battery or you got a drain somewhere

The battery is less than 6 months old.

I have put an AMP metre on the battery there is no drain showing up but I no hand on heart there is a drain somewhere.

1687 wont clear - now on Saturday it cleared when I changed a coil over (One nearest the timing belt) I had broke the bolt down hole off this one last year - and low and behold the code cleared (hence why I was so sure it was a coil problem).

Last night it also flashed up "loose connection" any idea what that could be?

Thanks for the help guys.

All sorted - new battery + 4 new coils.

Problem sorted - left it in with the dealers today as I was fed up with it :worship:

Seems the coils where draining the power when the engine turned over - or thats what i was told anyway.

Thanks for all the help and links very very helpful

Before you do how about the new punto?.....no electrical problems(y)

I think differently the VW i have a company VW passat lovely car to drive never any problems. The wife now hates the stilo with a passion so its going sooner rather than later.

But yeah I will have a look at the punto but i cant see the wife going for another fiat just so soon.

Oh by the way does anyone no what causes the boot light not to work? there is only 3v at where the bulb connects?

Cheers

Can`t understand how 4 coils have failed at same time + new battery fitted

fault now cleared I doubt this very much
I thought the starter motor was the biggest drain on battery

I always thought coils worked on an high back emf (when spark required)

Being as you have rear boot light fault I would have thought garage would of picked up on this.

Used to be a common fault with Batteries going flat when cars left unattended because boot light switch not opened when boot closed leaving light on but you can`t see it !

Being as you are only getting 3 volts to boot light have you got a short to chassis on + feed to bootlight ?
Or have you got a faulty bootlight switch ?
A moisture laiden switch wood cause the above and possible cause a battery drain.
I will have a look at wiring diagram more fully .

Hello, maybe a bit late but fault codes have to do with the throttle body (original Fiat codes) :

P1684 = fault during self-learning of throttled body (low battery or plausibility)

P1687 = interruption of throttled body selflearning for incorrect environmental parameters

My throttled body was recently replaced after it stopped to react on gas pedal movement - fault code was P 1684.......

Maybe somebody else can use this information ??
