I need to do this as someone broke it; can I try and change it myself? Will I be able to clean the small bits of glass that dropped into the door panel when I removed the falling parts off the car? Is the procedure description from eLearn enough? Electric windows on front.

Is the window totally broken?
if so, you just pull up the bottom seal, and then vac up all the bits in the door frame. make sure the windo winding mechanism is right to the bottom, then stick your replacement glass in,push it down firmly but gently and it should click into the winder clips...

jobs a good un.. wind up and make sure it's fitting flush. replace seal.

EDIT: vac'ing the bits up can be quite difficult, you need a really long hose extension for the vac, like a dyson has only longer.

Unfortunatelly the window IS totally broken, and I am afraid that the part of the window that is still hidden in the door panel is going to come apart into small bits which I will have to clean as well; btw, what bottom seal r u talking about? The seal at the top of the door panel (bottom of the visible window)? Shoult I take that off? eLearn says nothing about that... that's one of the reasons why I posted this in here ;)

OK, I managed to dismantle the door panel, very easy now to fit the new window (tomorrow hopefully), but I still have a problem with the glass bits inside the door itself which I cannot take out; I tried removing the metal door panel underneath the plastic/fabric one, but I cannot set it free from the door locking mechanisms; is there a way I can take this off or I will have to use a vac cleaner and a thin hose that I can slide between other moving parts of the door?

Has anybody done this?

Thanks

Sorry, I went to work. I've done a lot of this recently, my car got broken into twice.

There should be no need to remove the door card at all, cos the window is shatter safety galss it should all be completely in pieces, totally shattered.

look at the horizontal bit of the window frame, there is a rubber seal, with a little firm force lift the seal off, and the you'll see the gap that the window fits in is nice and wide, just jam a vacuum cleaner extension in there and vac it all up. you can shake the door to see if there's any left in.

Thanks Seraph, that's what I'm gonna do.(y)

Cheers.

Hi, I'm new here and a total newbie with cars especially car windows, where I come from they won't just break your window and steal some stuff so this is new to me, but I can pretty much use a screwdriver and quite skilled with a hoover. :D

Just a few days ago our 3 door Stilo got broken into, now I want to do this myself but can't seem to find a detailed instruction on fitting replacement glass window. I tried it today but had no clue where to start and what is a bottom seal. Pictures would be nice. Thanks! BTW, mine is on the driver side but I assume they're the same.

So much for introduction and my first post.
