I rang the dealer yesterday (Caledonia Manchester) to book my car in to have the heated mirrors and windscreen checked as the passenger side mirror doest seem to be working and two elements od the rear screen also dont seem to be working.

The guy in the service dept said i may have to pay a £38 charge as the warranty only covers that stuff up to the second year.. My car is an '53 plate registered in jan 04. Ive only had the car 6 months and this wasnt stated when i bought the car, the salesman said it had 3years warranty.

Is this right?:confused:
 
Well, the car does have a 3 year warranty...

...but the first two years are manufacturer's warranty, and the 3rd year is dealership warranty, which doesn't tend to be as comprehensive.

If you bought the car from them, I would argue the point that the salesman never made this clear to you.

2 elements on mine failed within a month of having, fiat put in a new screen, then my passenger heated mirror failed, they replaced it......kick up a fuss!
 
The key word here is 'may' have to pay....all depends what the fault is,if its wiring you pay but if its a component fault the 3rd year(not Fiat)warranty pays.

Third year warranty does not cover wiring.
 
The 3rd year warranty seems too open to dealer interpretation. I had the front seat rails replaced on my 3 door under the dealer warranty, but that was only after trying a different dealer. The first dealer looked at it and claimed it wasn't a warranty repair. My advice would be to phone another dealer, tell them the rear screen doesnt work and wait to see if they will cover it.

The mirror is tricky, as it is now physically broken. I would argue, threaten them with the press, legal action etc until they eventually back down. The cost to them for the mirror glass will be very small.
