I've found this stray lead down between the battery box and the front panel

P1020537.JPG

Can some kind soul tell me what it does, or in fact what it should do :confused:

It Looks like the connector from the front and rear ride height sensors for vehicles fitted with original Xenon HID headlamps. The connector is only fitted on the left headlamp.

Can't see the wire colours in your picture very well, but they look similar to the colours shown on the wiring diagram for the sensors.

BM = White/brown.
AL = Light Blue/dark blue.
CB = Orange/white.
BL = White/dark blue.
AV = Light Blue/Green.

Just been out in the cold to look, and can't see where it fits. However, I'm changing the battery soon and from previous experience, I'm cutting a big hole in the battery box so I can change bulbs much easier. Once all that side is out I probably can see where it goes.

Took another shot of it

can't see where it fits.

Took another shot of it and it has 6 wires connected, Btw it's a 2004 2.4 Abarth 3dr.

If you have original Xenon HID headlamps, the 6 pin connector should be easy to see on the back of the left headlamp.

I don't think the sensor wiring was fitted to cars without HIDs, so perhaps the car did have them and they were taken out by a previous owner. Possibly because the car needed new headlamps and the previous owner discovered HIDs cost over £800 each.

If the car did have HIDs, it would also have the front sensor (on the right suspension arm), and rear sensor (on the back axle) and their wiring and connectors fitted. It would also have headlamp washers; a legal requirement for all vehicles fitted with HIDs.

Yep, I can see why someone who needed one or a pair of headlights wouldn't be too keen to stump up £800 - £1600 :), especially on a Stilo, and I thought LED Headlamp replacements were dear.

I guess it's possible it could have had them, then had a smack in the front, and had normal's put in their place, although there's no obvious or recorded signs of damage. Equally maybe the harness had the facility for connecting to Halogens but never utilised ?.

I've only had a quickish peep underneath and not seen either of the sender units, but I will have a better look tomorrow (when its light and warmer) :D

My old beast has this same connector and is a regular halogen-lights equipped car.

I've been all over the car the last few years and there's no sign that it has ever had HID lamps (no sensors or wiring on the suspension, and no washers etc.).

I'd say it could be vestigial HID wiring, fitted as part of a standard loom... although that's less interesting than saying it's the power and sensor lead for the sonic oscillator array.

It's the power and sensor lead for the sonic oscillator array.

:D
