Hi folks

Looking for some help with part numbers for 6 speed gearbox for 2004 Stilo 1.4 16v.

The gb that is currently in the car is very noisy, although seems to function ok, but the garage suggests that it should be replaced before it gets worse/ fails.

The gb fitted is marked with the following numbers - 55181588 st3047B06 and C.101. I do have another gb for a 1.4 16v Stilo which I got second hand last year and put into another Stilo (again 1.4 16v car, 2005 year, also had strange noises which seemingly indicated impending gb failure - there's previous posts on here about all of that) which had some sort of catastrophic electrical failure before I ever got that car back on the ground and was able to run it, although the gb did physically fit with no real problems. Numbers on that box, however, are different - C513.514.44 and 73502791.1

The idea would be to replace the former with the latter, but now not 100% sure that it is the correct box based on the part etc numbers. Done a bit of searching on here and in the web, but getting ever more confused. Grateful for any expertise anyone has on this.

Cheers.

55181588 is the Fiat part number for just the rear gear casing.

Thanks Davren
Do you know if any of these numbers give any clue as to whether the spare box that I have would be compatible?
Tia.

Sorry.... I don't know. I believe the C.xxx or Cxxx refers to the general type of gearbox. The other numbers may refer to the gear and differential ratios in the gearbox, and whether it's 5 or 6 speed.

Thanks again, Davren.
Struggling a bit with this, and I'm thinking that if the casing numbers are different then that might be an indication that the casing is different for the reason that the internals are different...... then again maybe not....
Am thinking along the lines of just pulling the spare box out and seeing if it fits and runs in the older car, or looking out for a box that has exactly the same numbers on the casing (although either way don't think it would be a DIY job this time, given that I did find it quite awkward to do the last time).
Cheers.
