I went to my fiat dealer today and they had an "04" abarth for sale with 15k on the clock, no extras i think or leather though  (was a nice grey colour though).

they've offered me 9k for my MG but they want £1,500 on top for the stilo  ! am i being had or is this a good price?

It will be difficult no doubt because you are reliant upon the dealer taking your car in exchange. He has the advantage. Those I viewed were cash examples. Now what are the possibilities of you flogging the MGF 1st? Then the game changes and 9K cash may get it.

Make him an offer, a real low one - he can only say no, then work your way up from there....

Any idea how long it has been on the forecourrt for? Remember, they need you more than you need them, so be prepared to walk away yet again ;)

Say youve seen a similar vehicle at another dealers for 9k or summat

or say youve been offered a better p/x somewhere else

well the salesman is the managing director of the dealership and he said the stilo is his wife's car and he's not overly bothered about selling it...just coz i enquired he said he'd sell it - if that makes sense.

EDIT btw does anyone know if fiat dealers take mastercard?

had the MG nearly 8 months... LOL! according to parkers i should get £8700 for the MG but Mr Fiat has offered me £9000 (pretty much lost a grand and a half!).

I think you can take it as read that no dealer will sell a car at a good price, for the customer anyway. They want to make money. So there is always room to negotiate.

However, this means the customer has to be prepared to walk away and this can be difficult if they really want a particular car. But never let the dealer know you really want it! Be as dis-interested as you can. ;)
