Hi All,

Having peculiar problems with my central locking on my 05 Stilo 1.4 16v. When operating the remote to open the car the drivers door unlocks but the passenger and boot does not. But after standing with the remote and mashing the open button between 3-8 times (different every time). I noticed this a few months ago but it was only affecting the boot, now it has spread to the passenger door too.

I have done the standard key fob battery change, but no luck. What I have noticed is that when operating any electrical system on the car (windows, AC, Engine Fan) the revs drop off and so do the headlights. So I know there is either a battery fault/alternator fault.

Would a bad battery cause problems for the central locking? Any help or ideas much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Morning Ross, welcome to Fiat Forum.

That is an interesting fault you have there. If I'm being honest it's not one I've personal experience of or have read about previously on this forum, that I recall.

What I would say is that your observation regarding the battery could well be a critical one.

It is quite well documented around these parts that a worn or tired battery can produce a wide range of bizarre electrical difficulties. Whilst I've never heard of the central locking being affected it is more than possible that the locks simply arent receiving sufficient current to unlock.

Another common issue associated with the battery is poor connection. If you check out the guides section on the link bar up top, there is a guide on there about cleaning the fuse board which sits atop the battery. It will also be worth cleaning both sides of the earth strap (battery and body sides) and the positive battery clamp.

Of course if the battery is on it's way out; replace that now before the cold weather really strikes, as the first frost is likely to be the end of it.

Morning...

I had a similar problem to this for almost a year, unlock with remote and sometimes boot would unlock with doors and sometimes not. Never really bothered me so didn't think anymore about it.

Due to another problem recently I changed the cars battery and a as a side effect my doors and boot hatch open together each time now.

So I think Artemis's advice about the car battery might be worth looking at...he gave me the pointer with my other fault being due to battery being old.
