Just had my 2nd year service, knew i wouldn;t get away with just paying for the service. The dodge city Fiat garage i use, told me i need new wipers front and back (their qoute £53, fitted!!! Ouch!), got these myself, cost me £20 for all 3 brand new and 5 mins to fit em myself.
Anyway, they told me the front discs and pads needed replacing. I asked why, and was told the Disc was damging the pad (never heard this before usually the otehr way round!). Sooooo, i asked, if the disc is causing damage it suggests a fault. Fix it under warranty. Noooooo, they said, Discs are only covered on the Stilo for 12400 miles, How convenient!!! Their quote £231 thats with a discount? Hmmmm!!.
I chanced my arm and phoned Fiat HQ, from past experience, a waste of time. One of their "professionals", told me there is no warranty on discs.
What is the truth, i would expect to replce pads by 22months (the age of my car ) but not discs. The garage told me the pads are fine over 60% wear left. The disc is damaged., and it is that which is damaging the pads. WEIRD!
Can someone please advise me / tell me if they have suffered any similar!
Any help/advise greatly appreciated.!
Oh by the way, The reason my disc is damaged according to the "oracle" working in the garage!, "It has seen alot of heat!". Blow me, a brake disc being subjected to heat, what a scientific phenomenen

Sounds like bull to me. I've NEVER had discs replaced and I've owned a fair few motors.

The worst I've needed was to have the discs skimmed (once after pads scored the disc and once to cure noisy brakes) :)

run the car down to another garage for a second opinion (even kwikfit should tell you if the fiat garage have been telling the truth and a brake inspection is free - although I wouldn't let them actually do any repairs to my car)

You haven't said how many miles you've done on these discs/pads.

Also did you know that a lot of manufacturers now fit 'soft' discs and 'hard' pads to their cars so the days of discs lasting 100k miles with pads being changed at around 20k are a thing of the past.
The pads & discs on my Punto HGT had to be changed at 44k (for some nice Tarox ones(y) ) as both wore out at the same time.

I will second that as I have had to replace discs and pads all round after 25000 miles.
Did the brakes myself on saturday, I got drilled and grooved discs(black diamond) front and back with greenstuff pads on the front and black diamond std pads on the back all for £300(motorsportworld).
Bit of a pain to fit, but im sure a local mechanic would fit them for cash.

If you're just after standard disc rotors you can get them for £80 for the pair, sports discs £115 free delivery at brakes4u.co.uk

What's actually wrong with your discs? What makes them decide they're overheated?

Hi,
Did forget to mention 2 things, Discs had done 24000 miles. Was told the pads are fine, it is the discs damaging the pads, NOT the otherway round which is usually the norm.
Been told by Fiat HQ up in Dodge city!:bang: , that the discs are not covered by any warranty. So they're not fixing them.
Going to upgrade the pads and discs (Got my eye on brand new set of EBC cross drilled and grooved with some green stuff pads-£185 the lot delivered, not bad me thinks, unless anyone knows anywhere cheaper).
Forgot, the second thing, the people at my local Fiat dealer do tend to ride to work on horse back, wearing stetsons and six shooters.

My estimations of Fiat customer service have decreased. (And they were V.low to start!) Anyone else had a problem with em?
