City mode automatically cuts out at above 30mph, alot of my customers have it switched on all the time with no problems.
From what I've read on eLEARN leaving it on city mode will just mean the motor is used more, so it's like leaving the fan on all the time i suppose. However, there is a safety system if the system is overworked it can make to steering heavier to reduce heat (only in extreme circumstances), and the city mode automatically gets switched to normal mode above 40mph.

Ive never felt the need to use it..........strange as i used to use it all the time in the punto i had. I find the Stilo's stearing really light as it is

Yep!
I thought if you left it on it damaged it! I think you lose so much in the way of steering feel as well! 
The Punto in CITY was wild on some Puntos! Waaaaaaaay too much assistance. It was almost out of control for normal driving, I don't know if it still is like that.
But the Stilo is balanced nicely and only putting in just a little more assistance at slow speeds in CITY.
I just like turning the "girly switch" on when I enter congested city streets which , I suppose, is just doing what's it's designed to do
Don't forget it also arms the stun phasers for motorcyclists that come within 1/2 metre of your wing mirrors

Couldn't agree more actually it's usually car drivers that cause the problems in the first place!
