Hello

Due to the few issues i have with my Stilo i started to look at other cars as i was getting fed up with these problems. Anyway on Wednesday i went to look at a 52 reg Volvo S60 2.4D. It wasn't in bad nick for its age and milage but i took it for a test drive, there was a warning light on dash and clunking from the wheels. It was supposed to have had a recent cambelt change but there was no proof of that. Also FSH but the last stamped service was 3 years ago, 23k miles ago! Now i know that doesn't mean it hasn't been done since. The car just didn't feel right so no deal was done. It even had a boring key not like cool fiat key fob :) Anyway i got back in my Stilo and instantly changed my mind and now i'm sticking with the Stilo. It made me appreciate it more. It looks better, my interior is nearly spotless, its quick, economical, cheap tax and insurance. Me and my wife are glad we walked away. So we've ordered a new bathroom suite instead (y) Just thought i'd share that with you guys! The Stilo is a proper competitor to other cars for money. I know what i've got with my Stilo and only about 50k miles on my new engine.

Phil

a million thanks for not getting a volvo...

ive driven the D5s and whilst incredibly fast and incredibly comfortable... for the money id keep my stilo day in day out. im in Stilo ownership for the long haul, hence why im putting CN+ and eventually Climate Control in her. the only thing i really want is the leather full electric seats but ill be honest... thats one thing i can let slide (although im looking into bum heaters, just need to find a decent set suitable for leather and the right size for the seats)

once the CN is converted to white LEDs and in i get to start on a massive amount of suspension work before MOT in Feb i have a massive shopping list to get her properly sorted but by the time its complete i should be looking at a really sorted motor and one ill be happy to keep. my ECU has gone pop and with the stuff i know about/is on the list she just needs a really good service. so ill be throwing close on £500 at her in the next few months but i couldnt think of another motor i would rather have!

jeeeez...lucky escape there Phil!!! If I were to buy a Volvo (I do like them, in general) I would ONLY do it if I were mega rich and had lost the ability to think.!!

They do make some good cars these days, and I love the old tanks, but seriously they are expensive, clunky and if those engines go even slightly wrong you're in trouble!!

If it doesn't feel right, you made the right decision, because Volvo clunks and bad feelings are generally expensive, more so than other makes and certainly more so than the Stilo and in the end, not better value. I have had friends with Volvos and while they love them, when they go wrong they work out more expensive than you would imagine! Dnt get me wrong, I think most volvos are well built, great engines and they have great levels of refinement and equipment BUT that comes at a price AND a Volvo is only worth the money from NEW when you have a warranty, after that you are at the mercy of garages who think you have money to burn!!

I'm the same, like the C30 but only because it looks like the Stilo but it does come with a more powerful 5 pot powerplant...

I'd say the previous shape Astra comes from a similar mould as the Stilo but is too bulky up front, plus it's a Vauxhall lol

I think if I ever wanted another car I'd always keep the Stilo, just purely on the enjoyment I get out it!

I have to Admit, I love the C30!! gorgeous car. I see the C30 as the beginnings of a huge change for Volvo - cars from these era onwards LOOK superb, much more appealing.

couldn't agree more.
gone are the days of the 850s boat like handling and appearance. the Vs and Ss of the turn of the century i think attempted to up their game in regards to company image and the latest generation such as the new C30 is just a glimpse of things to come... im excited.

Not a fan of volvos really, I always thought they are a well made sturdy looking car but I've never been a fan of how they look - some of them looked liked they were designed with window sills on them (anyone remember the 240 lol) :D Today's current models look lovely especially the new v40 which looks very nice but I just can not get excited about the older ones. We had one when I was a kid. It was a x reg 340 3 door and was pug ugly. It had a Renault 1.4 OHV engine and was pretty reliable and didn't give us any drama really unlike the dolomite sprint that the Volvo replaced which I can remember fondly staring at the opened bonnet from the back seat as yet another problem needed attending to at a roundabout or at a set of traffic lights by my dad....... Ahh the memories :)

My dad had a couple of the old Volvos, I can't remember the model numbers, and whilst they were built like tanks I remember the first one being a nice car to be in with it's full leather etc.

The old chap liked his estates and I've carried on the tradition, with this being my latest. I still like my Stilo though! :)

gorgeous Audi!! I love Audis in estate-form, very beastly yet elegant.

Very nice car. I like Audi and BMW but not bothered about Mercs.

I agree, Audi and BMW make solid, superb cars, they are nearly ALL awesome in some way. Merc although good, are a bit boring and not very well built (though the standard is high, its not as high as it was and should be). When you get into a BMW or Audi, it feels very special, when I get into a Merc, I almost fall asleep.

Yeah, in fact in many cases I prefer the look of the estate over the saloon with many makes and models. I had three VW Passat estates and an Audi 80 estate before the A6 though I did have an Audi 80 Sport saloon and that was a real looker.

Have never had a Fiat estate amongst the many I have had over the years but that's mainly because most of them have been the smaller models and/or an estate wasn't available, but then a hatch is like a small estate anyway! My Stilo 3 door certainly isn't lacking in load area with the rear seats down.

Hatches and estates are brilliant.
