Hi,

I have a 53 Stilo which has done 65k.
Driving last week the engine fault light came on and I was able to park at work.
After work the car really struggled to start and has no power (revs never above 1100rpm)

I got towed home by the AA and he suggested it was the throttle, so I bought a throttle body off ebay and replaced it.

This time the car only revs to 2000rpm and shows the two codes (P1687 and P1220). When I take the plug out the throttle body I get alot more codes.

Another thing although I'm not sure if its connected it that the battery is in really bad shape. I have to jump it a couple of times to get it started.

Yes, I've read the other threads but nothing has worked so far! :(

Thanks, Aaron

Also MultiEcuScan shows the throttle angle at 6 when connected and 108 when disconnected. When I press the accelerator, the throttle shows 100%.
Am I right in guessing this is the value read by the ECU from the pedal?

Hi LewisUK, Welcome to FF.

P1220 Throttle position [signal implausible]
P1687 Motorised throttle(stop learn)/Throttle driven [signal implausible]

see my sig for relearn procedure, if that doesnt work i think theres a throttle relearn option in MES

come back to let us know if it worked or not

Nope exactly the same...

It starts fine then as soon as the engine fault comes on the car vibrates like mad lol.

Same 2 codes too, I've even taken the battery off for an hour.

I'm stumped!

Try disconnecting MAP sensor and see if it helps.

Next suspect is power feeds, after that suspect tracks in throttle actuator itself.

Failing those two it could be Engine ECU. If you bear with me for a couple of hours ill do a bit more digging and get some tech stuff for you when I get home with my laptop

Where is the MAP sensor?

Thanks mate, I'm not totally clued up but I'm a fast learner lol

Runs a little better, MES gives 6.3 degree throttle angle but 100% throttle angle

OK got a new code....

P0530 which is air conditioner pressure sensor?

No power to drive, can bearly roll on the clutch.

It vibrates like mad when the original faults come on

apparently this should be done when removing and refitting the throttle valve or if the ECU has been changed... its an initialisation of the throttle body but i think this is the same as the re-learn... its possible its lost its memory but if everything is reporting correctly with MES then i dont think you will have a problem

During this procedure, from the moment when the instrument panel is supplied with power until the end of learning, do not press the accelerator, brake or clutch pedals.

Manual procedure

  1. Turn the ignition key to ON position (engine off)
  2. Wait 60 seconds, the time required for the control unit to check the throttle body's internal spring and the butterfly's maximum/minimum angles.
  3. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position
  4. Wait 10 seconds, the time required for the control unit to save the learnt values in EPROM.

theres a 5v feed that runs the Throttle pedal, throttle body, MAP and AC Presure Sensor... the Pressure sensor was a known weakpoint and it was known to cause idle issues with faults ranging from P0105 to 0530 and iirc your throttle faults too... still looking for more info for you

EDIT:
P0105 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Malfunction
P0110 IAT (Intake Air Temp.) Circuit Malfunction

both id expect to see with MAP disconnected as its a combined sensor for MAP and IAT, so thats fine!

drivers side front, behind lower corner of bumper, where the pipes meet condenser

EDIT:

how does it run connected/disconnected?

yes, it will throw a P0530 fault
