Hi, have seen lots of information on the site about starting issues but hoping for some clarification or logical progression for diagnosis. Have had starting issues over a couple of months. Had glowplugs checked (no issues), changed battery although old one was diagnosed as fine, also used cleaning additive a couple of tankfuls ago.
Car fails to start on cold mornings ( but not always) can fail to start after being left for two days (but not always). It does a lot of short trips in the week and usually a good long run every weekend or two. Has also had problems starting after stopping at a service station after a two hour run.
When it fails to start "loose connection" message come up on the dash and engine warning light comes on ( but not always). (it then disappears the next successful start or some time later)
I religiously wait for glow light to go out and then turn key fully as per instructions. There appears to be plenty of battery and the starter spins and spins but no start. Occasionally it will go at the second or third attempt, I have taken to parking on a hill where it can usually be convinced to start on a roll.
The only consistent thing about this issue is the inconsistency- I tire of the will it won't it-I don't need an adrenaline rush to start the day.

Did you get any fault codes ..if you can put on diagnostic and get any codes, could be electrical or fuel related i.e dodgy relay for fuel pump, even bad earth fault codes be good help and do you know how glow plugs were checked although you say after long run it was troble starting and engine should be warm enough to start without glow plug help.... the relay for fuel pump in my jtd 1.9 multiwagon is T10 by battery. one of the black ones nearest front of car ...if yours is mutijet may be different position
