Hi, I have removed the sliding rear bench from my MW as I need all the space I can get. As my car has rear airbags the airbag failure message is showing.
Can I bridge the rear connectors with a fuse to get rid of the message?
Any other ways to get rid of the message?
I have turned them off by the way.
thanks

The airbag ECU still checks all the airbags, even if you've switched them off.

Only way would be to fit an ECU from a car with no head airbags or, if it's possible, have your ECU reprogrammed to exclude them. Either way would also disable the front seat head airbags.

Not sure what the resistance is but have got round this problem on other cars by soldering a resistor the same as the airbag into a plug.

Would a resistor work?
Could i remove the airbag from the rear seats and just plug it in and turn it off?

Has anyone taken airbags out of a rear seat or knows how to do it?

if anyone can tell me where the airbag ecu is. ive got a full car here for parts a 3 door with no rear airbags in full working order that you can have the ecu for postage if someone tells me where it is...

then after instalation just use a proxy alignment procedure to pair it to the car and bobs your uncle.

Well that sounds a good option if I knew what a proxy alignment proceedure was! lol

proxy alignment is procedure carried out using registerd version of the multiscan software, basically it is done on a laptop and the software makes car ecu re-learn all electrical gadjets running through the car ecu's..an examply being when adding cruise control although the cruise item works the light and detail on dash does not work so doing proxy aligment it checks what is fitted and picks up new cruise item fitted and then works , you have airbag issue so I was just giving an example of how proxy works

where in the contry are you? there may be friendly FF members close by with the capabilities to proxy align your car.

either way PM me if you want the ecu excluding the rear airbags.

Hi,
I'm located in Brighouse, Sunny West Yorkshire so if anyone with the knowledge can help that would be great. Saves me pulling the rear seat to bits!
Cheers Toby

You just add a resistor to the airbag wiring the light will go out, i cant remember the resistance of the resistor but we have done it many times

The ECU then needs to be reprogrammed to tell the vehicle that rear airbags were never present from factory standard...once that is done will be working fine

Some cars you can just reprogramme the ECU, some you can just add the resistor, some you have to do both just pot luck wish technique will work for you mate

do cheapest first, find out the OHM of the resistor needed, i dont know as it was at my old work i did this and never thought to ask the OHM of the resistors :bang:

The ECU reprogramming is the expensive option...not too dear but resistor first! :)

still think it would be easier and cheaper to fit a non rear airbag ecu and proxy align. any stilo airbag ecu from a scrapyard will fit, and the software is available for download free on the internet although id definatly say if you are to use it then definatly think about purchasing it legitamatly.

Well I have removed the airbags from each rear seat and that has sorted the issue.
I have turned them off and put them under the front seats for safety and I could refit them if I need to.
Not the prettiest solution but the easiest.
Thanks for all your help - now I just need to sort my key issue! (see blue key post)
