I have recently posted on here about my sat nav+ unit I bought. I was having problems getting the master code.

I was told to disconnect the canbus lines, and after many PM's and emails this did not work. I eventually took it to a Fiat dealer who put the car on the examiner to see if they could help.

THE TRUTH IS THAT YOU CAN NOT FIT A SAT NAV+ UNIT WHICH AS NOT COME AS STANDARD IN THE VEHILCE WHEN BOUGHT. THERE IS NO OTHER POSSIBLE WAY TO MAKE IT TALK TO THE ECU. IT IS THE ECU WHICH ASK'S FOR THE CODE NOT THE SAT NAV UNIT AND THERE IS NO WAY OF RESETTING THE ECU.

You can still use all the sat nav features its just that it wont display any information from the ECU.

IF YOU EVER BUY A SECOND HAND SAT NAV UNIT MAKE SURE IT COMES WITH THE ECU FROM THE CAR IT WAS TAKEN FROM. (n)

That is most definitely not true, as I (and several others, including Karateka_GR I believe) have fitted first a regular Connect Nav and then a Connect Nav+ to my 02 Stilo 1.2 Active.

It is true that the mastercode is stored in the body computer once you have entered it on the CN+ for the first time...

The CAN bus wire trick works though, after a couple of unsuccessful tries (sometimes it just takes some time and patience) the body computer "gives up" and the odometer flashes; the CN+ then receives the informations necessary from the body computer and works fine.

Best,

Lars.

I too was under the impression it could be done, albeit slightly tricky procedure.

I think the FIAT examiner tech didn't dig deep enough, even though he may have tried to the best of his ability/training.

You mean he made it up on the spot eh stu? ;)
Now now :nono: - I have dealt with a few FIAT guys who know the Examiner inside out, but it does depend on the managers behind them, and whether they send them on relevant training ;)

I haven't encountered any difficulties installing mine on 1.6, as well as the ABARTH dashboard as well. I needed ECU reprogramming only for the dashboard:

I just saw this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=76086&item=4550444799&rd=1

and just need to be clear on how easy it is to install (if i were to buy one and because i'm a bit thickheaded ); can you do it yourself? or can it only be done by fiat?

What about the gps antenna? Can you hear cd and use the navigation at the same time? Can it play only mp3 files or also wma files?

Hey, what software is that nav+ running on???? I can see a couple of screens on that unit i'm pretty sure i havn't got. One is that black one with the numbers at the bottom (the one for the phone i guess) but the one that surprises me the most is the one with the folders at the bottom; might that be for the mp3 files??? if so I WANT IT!!!!!!

Hey ther Karateka_GR, how hard was it to fit the Abarth dash??? Does everything work ok?? I once heard that you get an error message concerning the parking sensors (which i have got on my stilo), have you had any problems with error messages??? Can they be fixed???
Tanx in advance (y)

Once you install the dash, all the leds on the dash will light and many beeps will start shouting. At this point you will need to have the FIAT examiner and Software near to calibrate the dash.

Once you do that everything is fine. No faulty beeps for missing sensors or checking errors.

So would Fiat actually do this for me or would they just tell me to f**k off and put the original dash back on, 'cause i know some of u guys are friends with the fiat personel but to them i'm just another young idiot with a yellow car!!!!

Lars,

I have tried the can bus trick and although the odometer flashes it still asks for the mastercode when i reconnect the unit with the can bus attached.

I am not that bothered about the dash info repeating on the unit, although it would be good to have it work properly, but without the ignition switched live connected it only works for 20 minutes and then goes off on the 20 minute mode. Is there any way to make it work on the ignition switched live without the can bus connected, i don't want to try it unless safe to do so without damaging ecu.

I would appreciate any suggetions.

Pete

Little story for you....(kind of related to this thread)

I had a problem with a poor radio reception on my Connect Nav+ and after many previous attempts I really wanted it sorted out. So the car went in to the dealer and here's what happened:

1) Couldn't sort the problem so tried fitting a new unit
2) New unit still had poor reception so eventually traced it to an aerial problem
3) This sorted, they put my old unit back in but it asked for a master code
4) Nobody knew the master code so a request was put into Fiat
5) Meanwhile, I drive out with their new unit :D
6) Apparently, Fiat did not have the master code to unlock my old unit so I was told it was being sent to Scotland to be 'reset' - and should take a few days
7) Almost 6 weeks later my unit returns from Scotland and guess what, the bloody thing still asked for a master code! :bang:
8) I'm now driving around with a new unit while the dealer and Fiat scratch their heads! :D

It was all a bit of a farce really!

Karateka,

I have connected the 12v switched live and the unit stays on ok, but still have the problem with the Master Code causing me problems.

With 1 can bus line disconnected the odometer flashes, but when reconnected the unit still asks for the Master Code. I am able to use the full functions except for those from the ecu such as date and trip meter etc.

with the C Bus reconnected the unit does display all of the correct values on the displays so does connect to the c bus ok, but this only stays on for a few seconds before the Master code request box appears.

I will stay as I am for now and keep trying the c bus until hopefully it works one day.

My Boss says that you will sort out all my problems, as you are Greek and Greeks are responsible for the creation of everything.... he would say that though as he is from Chios.

Did you connect the extra power to the CN+ unit? If not this is why the unit switches off after 20min.

Check this one here: http://people.freenet.de/fk2000/cn+_einbau/cn+_einbau.htm

just to see where you have to connect the extra power.
