I seem to be having nothing but niggling little problems with my Stilo at the moment.

My wife used the car the other day and said she could not get the boot (hatch) to close properly and has been driving round with the boot unclosed.

I tried it and she is right. When you slam to boot shut it doesn´t catch as it should but seems to bounce up again and not engage in the mechanism.

I´ve tried it with the doors locked and opened and it make no difference. But obviously because we can´t shut the boot properly we can´t lock it either.

Anyone had this problem before and if so how do you solve it please.

Thanks

the mechanism is made of metal, so I doubt that it broke. What might have happened,(and this is assuming it has key-less entry) the servo might be stuck open, not allowing the latch to...well latch!
This thing might also happen if the lock is jammed or the linkage got stuck on something.

Best thing to do, is to take the cover of the boot lid and take the latch out, it will be held in place with only 2 bolts, and one or 2 connectors,(2 if you have keyless entry, 1 if you don't).

One more thing, if you want the doors to lock even if you can't get the boot to latch, you need to disconnect the black 3 pin connector that you will find on the latch assembly.(if you have keyless there will be a 2nd connector(might be white) that you will find on the back of the assembly, this works the servo)

Hope this helps

Edit:
Better yet, don't take anything apart for know,
I've attached a photo of the latch that I took of my panda when I put in one with the servo and micro-switches that I talked about.

see that little leaver on the right side of the assembly, that is the position it will normally be in, and you can push it to the left really easy.
If it's to the left and or stuck, it means that the actuator is stuck and preventing the latch to lock properly

Hi dandt87,

Thanks for that info, especially the photo as that really helped.

I do seem to remember that the little lever on the right side was stuck to the left.

Does that mean if I push it back to the right it will be ok?

Thanks

well, probably not, if you force it, you might brake the actuator on the back, (the actuator is held in with 2 screws, if that is the issue you can remove it) I'd recommend you take it off the car and see what's keeping it from returning.

Assuming that you have the keyless entry actuator(servo), that might be the problem.
It's not a difficult job to take it of the car , on the panda it was a 15 min job, start to finish, but it really depends on your technical skill.

take a look and please post what the problem was and how it was fixed

Hi dandt87,

I´m going to try and take it off the car and have a look. But on my car I can use a key to open the boot and also use the key fob so I don´t know if that is going to make any difference.

I´ll post what I find.

Thanks anyway.

Hi Nigel,

I garbed this photo of ebay
fiat_stilo_boot_lock.jpg
That white and black assembly on the back is the actuator (servo) that pushes on the leaver that I pointed out in my first post. And that opens the boot when you use the fob to open it. The gears inside are most likely to be plastic, so over time they get worn and no longer work, my money is that you will find the actuator extended fully.

If that is what you find, i suggest taking the actuator off the assembly for now, until you get a replacement latch(I don't think anyone sales the actuator by itself) or take the actuator apart an see why it's jammed.

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks dandt87, that is very helpful.

Hopefully I will be able to have a look at that this Sunday and check it out.

Many thanks
Nigel

Hi Dan,

Well I finally got round to having a look at the boot lock. I couldn´t get the boot trim completely off as there was a fixing in a recess that I couldn´t undo. But I was able to pull enough of the trim back enough to get a socket on the bolts and remove them.

I couldn´t get the boot lock completely out because there was a rod attached to the lock which I couldn´t undo.

But anyway, I managed to wiggle it about a bit and whatever I did seemed to have worked because now when we close the boot the latch click shut and we can even lock it too.

Job done!

Thanks for all your help Dan.

Hi Nigel,

Good to hear that it's now working properly.
The rod is connects to the key barrel, the boot trim needs to be removed to disconnect it.

Glad i could help,
Dan
