Hey Guys,

Well cars and me don't go that well together so maybe you can give me some advice.

Went in to have my exhaust changed for the second time this year (under warranty from the exhaust centre I may add) and he pointed out to me that the rubber inside the mount on the bottom of the engine (above the exhaust) is pretty worn out and as a result is not giving as much resistance as it should; apparently this is probably why the exhaust has gone so quickly.

So I popped to my normal mechanic and he was too busy to look at it but the receptionist said she would text me a quote.

The exhaust centre made it out to be a very easy job and said it was just a matter of jacking up the engine - undoing the bolt - sliding the one out and sliding the new one it. 30 mins work max he said.

Anyway get the quote and im shocked that its in excess of £180.

Can I have some advice on this pls =)

Thank you

I already did and they said they couldn't do it and just said go to my normal mechanic

I was told because there are other mounts around the engine it doesnt need to be secured from above. The guy did show me in the exhaust centre and it was only one and look very easy to access as I said.

Mine is the 1.6 stilo

Hi there, I know the mount your on about as mine is warn aswell. Sounds like your mechanic is ripping you off there. That mount can be removed with out supporting the engine in anyway ( has iv taken it out a few times before) when i was removing the gearbox differential.

I removed it by just putting the car on a set of car ramps and lying underneath

Have to say I thought so from looking at it.

Does it just slide out then or what?

from what i recall, its two blots then yes you just slide it out. from what i can remember it wasnt a difficult job, and for a garage it should only take them minutes to do

I am I right when I call it the bottom engine mount or does it go by a different name?

It's actually a stabiliser bar. It doesn't support any of the engine's weight. It's purpose is to stop the engine rocking backwards and forwards on acceleration and deceleration.

Been trying to find somewhere that sells the part but for the life of me I cant cause I dunno what to search for

ePER is your friend. It's item No 2 which is part No 46781891. I doubt you'll get it from anyone other than a FIAT dealer...

Best to get it done as soon as possible. I was advised that my rear engine mount had worn when I took my exhaust needed replacing about two months back, the man at the garage was nice enough to say if i get the part he would fit it for free.

I should of took his offer, i didnt bother and a month later the engine mount had snapped and ripped the cat from the rear of the engine £600od later I have a new cat and a new engine mount :-(.

Hi, part no1 has three teeth underneath. I somehow broke one of them. Is this a problem or should I replace the support part?

i'm 99% sure that tooth doesn't matter.

Part 2 is what I changed on mine (2004 1.6 petrol), was easy to do on ramps, or might have been axle stands.

I actually PU Sealant-ed up the old part as it was just the rubber bushing that failed. So I have one for free when it goes again :)

Also, after the two bolts were out I struggled taking it out, but then realised it pushed out towards the BACK of the car, and it was dead easy

I have changed it also. However, i notice a slight bell type sound when I have to drive over a rough surface and I was wondering if it is related with that broken tooth

Part no1 is the gearbox mount. One more question, what is the purpose of the three teeth?
