Hi Everyone,

I'm new to these forums, so I hope I'm posting this thread in the correct section.

I'm installing an amplifier in my Stilo, but as soon as I connect the 12V Battery Cable, all electronics in the car switches off. All the dials on the dials on the dashboard and the central locking all switch off. The stock HU displays the message "No CAN Network". The ignition does turn on, and the headlights and turn lights still work, but that's about it. As soon as I disconnect the power from the amplifier, everything returns to normal.

Note that the amplifier does turn on, even though everything else is shut off. Is it maybe because the amplifier is taking too much power?

After searching through various websites, it seems that I am the only one who has experienced this.

Thanks for you help.

Thanks for the replies.

I haven't really had a chance to take a look at this again. On inspection i have realised that it's not the 12v cable that's causing the power to shut down, but it is actually the remote wire that is causing this.

I'm not sure where the amp feed is coming from, because the cables were already fitted when I purchased the ride, the previous owner also had an amplifier connected as well, so I'm just using the existing connections.

Where would you advise that I take the amp feed from? I would like to try this before fitting in a relay.

From the battery directly ONLY. Size of the cable must correspond with the power from the amp.

I figured that much, because the power is running directly from the battery which is the only way that I would ever connect it. I just figured that he had a different idea.

Well there is CAN communication on the HU. The previous owner didn't done some thing like connected the the remote to it have they?

This might just be the case. I haven't really completed a full installation on a CAN communication before.

I have been doing more investigations, and even without the amp switching on, the power to all dials on the dashboard, central locking, and HU all switch off as soon as the remote wire is connected to the amp. At first I thought that it was a dodgy ground cable causing this, but it seems that it doesn't matter whether a grounding cable or battery cable is connected, it is only after connecting the remote wire that everything just shuts off.

Rite then, I have done loads of boot designs and sound system for friends cars and my old corsa.
The main thing that you need to do is have a live cable one side of the car and the phono and remote the other. Reason being signals and all that rubbish ( it makes a difference)
The stilo has so much electrics its ridiculous, so always make sure all cables have the rubber thing on each end.
Live cable on the battery needs no be connected on its own and not linked with anything else.
Earth point needs to be sanded to bare metal to have good contact.
Head unit remote cable needs to be the correct one and and all sealed no cable exposed.

If none of that helps then it can only be a few things, wrong remote cable connected, short ceruit with head unit, or wrong setting on amp.
The amp should be at low settings to start off with until all works then you can turn it up.

That is how I have always done it for years and I have never had a big problem that wasn't a easy fix.

Try turning all the settings down on the amp then connect the remote
Have u got a good battery on the car?

Apologies for the very late reply, and thanks for all the help.

The post below was the winner:

Well there is CAN communication on the HU. The previous owner didn't done some thing like connected the the remote to it have they?

The remote wire was connected to the CAN communication on the HU, which resulted in a complete shut down after connecting to the amp. I connected the remote wire to the cigarette lighter, problem solved:)
