Until Decks comes along, type 'Heater Fan' into the 'Search this Thread' above. There's loads of info there...

Assuming you don't have climate control there's 2 fuses F31 7.5A provides ignition fed supply for the power relay and F8 30A is permanent live to relay T8 on panel B1 to the fan motor N85

If you understand how it works, power is constantly fed with ignition on to heater motor and the fan switch supplies straight earth on setting 4 and through a resistor pack for the other 3 slower settings.

With all 4 settings dead then I'd check both fuses and the relay, then check for power at the fan motor itself

A loss of earth at C16 will give the same symptoms

Re: heater blower

Right then i was minding my own damn business on friday with the air con on and the fans on '4' all of a sudden all the fans went dead

I can't use speeds 1, 2, 3 or 4 everything else in the console seems to work fine, its a manual unit with the dials, NOT the auto climate control jobbie.

I've checked T08 (under the battery cover in the bonnet, swapped it with 2 other relays in there all seems ok) and fuse 31 (in the dash) for the 'reverse lights' and fuse 8 (also under the battery cover) still no luck.

I took the side panel off the tunnel today and had a look round, found a relay up there, dunno what its for. (next to the motor housing but secured on the cage around the steering column i think i was upside down kinda hard to tell)

Also should i be checking here for a feed to my motor? (blue and brown wires in the back of the fan housing, probably a stupid question just don't wanna probe anything I shouldn't)

Re: heater blower

As you already have side panel removed I'd check for an ign on 12v supply on blue wire at the heater fan. If you have power there then all fuses and relays upstream will be fine

Then it can only be the fan itself, the 4 position fan switch or the switch earth C16

Put an earth on the other heater fan downstream wire and see if the fan starts up with ign on. If fan works then fan is good and it's a switch or earth problem

The brown item is the resistor pack

Re: heater blower

210 +20% (modified loom and fan motor assembly)

off to the scrappy i go!

Is there any difference between A/C and non A/C motors?

Re: heater blower

What are the results of your findings? Is there a circuit through the motor ie not open circuit? Not a simple poor connection at the motor?

Is there power and earth going through the fan? ie is the motor just "stuck"
Have you tried putting power directly on the fan terminals?
Have you thought about fixing your own fan? It's a simple dc motor after all

The Climate control fan motor has an integral circuit board for fan speed control but that's not to say it couldn't be fitted with some drastic mods like removing the CB to a manual A/C control car. The motor itself may be the same and perhaps could be swopped over?

Re: heater blower

turns out the braided 'wire' was rubbing against the rotor and finally gave up
so with a bit of solder she was back together

into the vice she goes and moments later has 12v rammed up her chuff!

ooohhh look at the prettyness and the windyness and things

well... it lasted barely 3 seconds before it shat itself across the workshop 'HUH... WTF!!!??? ahhh ****e! b******s, F**K!!'

i think i may have coaxed it a little too enthusiastically from its initial home and cracked one of the fins or rings. soooo im trying to source another.

any tips on getting back in without damaging stuff would be awesome as i have visions of a shard of blade plunging its way through the delicate heater matrix should i be a little too ham fisted upon refitting

Re: heater blower

Ooo that's nasty

I find tying the clutch pedal down to the horizontal brake bar that traverses the car useful but don't just use weak tie wraps as they will break and the pedal will smack you in the eye. Use some wire cable and tie it securely

If your missus has smaller hands then get her to do it
