hi guys

thinking about getting my 1.6 stilo remapped. it will also have a powerflow hidden back box (which is on now) and im wanting to buy a induction kit for it, is the BMC one thats in the guides section the best for the stilo?

Also, if i have the back box and the induction kit, then get it remapped, does anyone know what it will take the bph up to ?

cheers

What is this hidden back box out of interest.

As for your question. I wouldnt go for an induction kit. Small petrol engines dont react well to cone induction.
I put an induction kit on my 1.6 and it dropped torque. A remap on paper clawed some of it back but the drivabilty of the car was never as good.

I would advise puting an uprated panel filter in the standard box then having your remap. You will end up with a much better driving car.

The opposite happened with my 1.6. (y) I can now hold 4th where I earlier had to use 3rd, and 5th is still going strong where I had do drop to 4th earlier. But acceleration: Nothing (ofcourse). Propably some differences on the kits then.

you wont get much bhp from the 1.6 stilo and i advise you not to waste money on a re-map as the power isnt worth it and from a cat back, Induction kit and re-map you wont get more than 12-13bhp.

My old 1.6 was running 127 bhp but you wouldnt really tell from driving it. You dont want to look at top end figures. You want to look at what it does inbetween ;)

That's a pretty massive gain on a standard petrol. But, as you say, what's in between will count more than BHP on the flywheel. ;) And a top end figure measured at 7000 RPM will not help you anywhere. I am very satisfied with the torque gain in 3rd and 4th gear, where I missed it the most. Now when winter is approaching it actually feels better - colder air perhaps?

Yeah i know what you mean in a way Morty. On the Motorway it was fine and cruised a dream. As soon as I had to slow down below 3k revs if was like somebody had stolen all the torque.
Between 3-4k it was ok, no major improvements or
Then it was like a mini turbo boost when you hit 4k

Cold air contains more oxygen which in turn makes the engine run a little more efficiently, thats why the car will feel faster in winter and why the aim of some induction kits (the K&N Typoon for one ((apparantly)) is to get the cone filter to a point where it can get as much cold air as possible.

As for moving the power to the top end with certain mods, that's the idea :D(y)

All of the aformentioned modifications come with a compromise. Its near impossible to make a difference in one point in a rev range without having negative effects else where. In my inexperience it would seem that all of the gains are seen at the top end on a rev range that is not advisable to ever go too. This results in a downfall in the rev range that you drive at most of the time.
They sell well because everybody wants a quick fix and tell their friends they have max power yo. Just like an amplifier max power means notin.

Indeed. In terms of real world performance in everyday driving the only difference the guts of £1000 worth of exhaust, induction and remap will make is noise. In reality the extra 20BHP isn't going to make you an Abarth killer, it's just going to make you look like a complete tool when your engine blows up because you have to take the car to 6000RMP so often to launch it off the lights
