im no expert in electronics but just out of interest what would happen if the resistor and cap. were installed CAN line > cap. > resistor > ground?
I envisage Six possibilities :-

1) ... Big Bang Mk2 ... creating a new universe where dinosaurs learn to wear warm clothes & consequently permanently become the dominant life form.

2) ... You will free the Higgs-Boson particle ... & ignite the Earth's atmosphere.

3) ... You will corrupt the Three Laws from your Stilo's positronic brain ... and it will enslave humanity.

4) ... You will short circuit the Flux Capacitor ... and end up back in 1955 every time you recklessly speed at 88 mph.

5) ... It will work fine ... and the universe will (maybe) sail serenely on.

6) ... Not a lot.

The BIG question is ... Do you feel lucky, punk? :p

You can tell your lass that I'm not as greedy as you ... I'll settle for a nice card with a £50 note slipped inside. :p ;)

She's just called me from a new pub about 2 miles away, its just opened back up after a refurb so she decided to use the money I just gave her and go in for Sunday lunch. They won't except the £50 notes I gave her, she didn't see the huge sign behind the bar. She hasn't got her Visa with her either so I got to go take her some smaller notes ..... :ROFLMAO:

Its a good excuse for a few glasses of the Black Stuff so see's you lot later. :D

No.3 was lost on me:eek: i have my fingers crossed for No.1 OR 4:D

Yeah, right !! ... My lad uses the same con (oops, sorry, I meant "valid reason for needing yet MORE money from me")

... I suspect it's one of nature's survival traits that seems to be "genetically imprinted" on sons & daughters. :p

I know the manager(I know the managers/owners from most pubs around here ... lol) so once I'd paid for their meals and drinks he allowed her to spend the £50 note on the next round of drinks.

Then my missus turned up with my 2 sons.

Then my mom and dad turned up with my sister and brother-in-law.

Then a few of my drinking partners turned up.

We all stayed for tea as well as dinner.

I put my card behind the bar after the fisrt hour(big mistake) as I'd run out of cash. We've just got home and put the lads in the bath. I pulled the receipt out of my pocket £238.62 ...

I should have seen it coming.

EDIT.
FiatECUScan 2.7.1 was released today. http://www.fiatecuscan.net

So much for the cheap laptop. :p ... Perhaps you should've just bought a Cray instead and told your lass to get her own blerry phone. ;)

You have deepest my sympathies, Stu.

I'll never forget my lad's first words, as my wife & I had a bet going on whether it would be "Daddy" or "Mummy" ... He looked at us both with tears in his big puppy eyes, smiled sweetly with that special cute look that only your own kids can give you, held out both hands imploringly to us, and said .....

.....

.... "Mon-eee?" .... AND THE LITTLE BRAT'S HAD US ON THE SLIPPERY SLOPE DOWNHILL EVER SINCE !!!! :p :bang:

thats some **** luck/stupidity shadey!!;)

a little more on topic :p

my ELM doobrey now has resitors and caps installed :D(y)

i had a word with the 'Electronics Oracle' (namely my ol' man, he used to work for GEC when there was a GEC in Coventry at the top of Spon Street, it once stood where the skydome does now, as he 'likes' elctronics) and he was saying that the purpose of the resistors and caps is to eliminate 'reflections' of the data signals in the lines.

He then went into a little more detail as he often does when i pull my  face and informed me that high speed CAN circuits are sensitive to impedance (which isnt the same as resistance, for those who dont know) impedance can be altered by any component such as pins in a connector, if the impedance grows on a high speed data line then it can send a reflection of whatever information was sent back down the circuit -thus- confusing the message resulting in, for example, the inability to read any given ECU that it is trying to communicate with... terminating the circuit with the resistor and capacitor to ground eliminate the chance of any reflections!

soooooo lets recap:-

after soldering in the resistors and capacitors on the CAN lines... voodoo happens and i can read my Stilos ECUs! allowing me to reset service lights and play with stuff that Mr Fiat never really wanted me to play with! COOL!!

No fancy electonic components added to my ELM, just a short length of very thin wire soldered accross 3 pins(Dont want to read/mess with the airbags so only 3 pins needed).

Guess what, me too.

EDIT.
DO NOT USE MODIFIED INTERFACES WITH SHORT CIRCUIT BETWEEN PINS 1 AND 9 ON GRANDE PUNTO, FIAT 500 OR ALFA MITO!

my elm interface came this morning, downloaded FES, so far so good. tried the TEST button, but i get nothing, apart from a timed out response.
tried the speed, but still the same
so i thought i'd give it a go in the stilo
connects no problem, cleared all the stored codes
but
i noticed as soon as the elm is plugged in the alarm chirps and arms itself!!!!!!
interface still works, you just have to keep still, lol

anyone got any ideas why it would arm the alarm system??

Hi Guys,

Just orderd an ELM interface and will download ECUscan.
I have a 2007 1.9 multijet.

Will I be able to see fault codes on the ecu and reset service schedule?

Thanks

You should be able to do both, no problem. ... Depending on exactly which ECUs you want to access, you would either need to "mod" the cable-pins or (even better) buy a set of pre-modded patch-cables from here :-

Back again after registering my FiatECUscan software and installing 2.72 over the top, ya. I can confirm the service interval reset is now available. I had unsuccessfully tried v2.21 previously hoping to reset it for free-times are tough!
I now wish to activate the flashing indicators when I lock the car but the program warns me I need the key card that came with the car. I have never been given such card(n). How do I acquire my code?

You can get the mechanical and electronic codes from a Fiat dealer. You'll probably need to show the cars registration document and some form of ID. From previous posts, they seem to charge between £0 and £35 for it.
