I've just bought a new stilo in october and i want to fit the standard cd changer in the glove compartment. I've asked my fiat dealer here ina Spain and they told me that the whole kit plus fitting would cost about 450 euros (about 330 pounds) and i find that far too expensive.

I'd like to know what teh CD changer model is so i can ask in some of the shops around here and see if i can get a better deal but the problem is that only fiat can get me the new lining fore the glove box; is teh new glove box exactly the same as the old one with a hole for the changer or has it got something else to it that i'll need?, otherwise i'll just take the one in the car and cut a hole in it!!

Also, i've looked on ebay for the cd changers but they only sell them for england so the new glove boy can't be fitted on a left hand drive car (like mine).
Finally, i wanted to know if i would be able to fit the cd changer myself or if i need a profesional to do it.

Sorry for the long message and thanks for any information

The standard Blaupunkt unit only works with certain head units, so you must have a fiat variant, there is an old thread here on the subject:

https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=1685&highlight=visteon+blaupunkt

I've just bought a unit mail order from a Fiat Main dealer, the price break down as follows:

Blaupunkt IDC - A09 Fiat FH £117.83+VAT
Short connecting wire - £9.99+VAT
Drawer - 21.40+VAT

Giving a grand total of £175 including the vat & delivery.

You can't just cut a hole in the existing drawer as you wouldn't have enough depth to fit the unit - see my photos at the end of this thread:

I fitted the unit myself, it is very easy and took less than 15 minutes - could probably do it a second time in less than 5!

You might be able to get the guys at the FIAT dealership I bought mine from to ship to Spain, I doubt if the courier charge will be significantly more. If you send me a PM I'll send you the contact details.

I would guess you would have to get the glovebox drawer locally because I would thinks it's different for the Left Hand Drive cars!

I've just got back from my Fiat dealer and they said they could sell me the cd changer+cables+new glove box for 400euros (about 270pounds). I think that's rather reasonable as long as i can fit it in myself. I just took my glove box out and the only thing i can see is the passanger airbag and a great big wad of cables wraped up in some fabric going to the sat nav unit  . Can anybody tell me if i'll be able to fit it myself (i've got no experience)??? Does the changer kit come with instructions to fit the changer??? Can anybody tell me what exactly do you have to do to fit it??? (Don't forget i havn't got the radio unit, i've got the nav+)

Thanks a bunch

The instructions that come with the unit are rubbish - they assume you are sticking it into an ordinary glovebox with some velcro rather than a custom drawer! Once you realise this its quite straightforward. The only useful thing in the instructions is the bit that tells you where to plug the cable in!

All you do is remove the Satnav+ unit by inserting a couple of small screwdrivers into the 2 holes either side of the cd slot. You must not push them in too far as the holes go inside the unit, just far enough to release the locking mechanism. I found I could then push it gently from the back and it slid straight out. Its quite heavy and a bit fiddly to hold with the huge wiring loom attached to it. You then plug in the new wire and feed it through the hole into the glove compartment. Then you can slide the satnav back in and fit the new glove box liner. Then you plug the wire into the Multichanger and simply slide it into the mount in the new glove box, and hey presto your done! The head unit then recognises the Multichanger automatically.

The most difficult thing is making sure the wire doesn't get caught up when you slide the changer in, and of course the bit when you remove the SatNav+. Doing that made me sweat a bit, especially when I found the extraction holes went inside the unit - I guess there's probably a special extraction tool, you may be able to ask the dealer if they could release the unit for you and slide it out a couple of centimetres if your nervous about doing that bit yourself.

I think its pretty straight forward to do - with practice you could easily do it in under 10 minutes, so a dealer shouldn't charge much to do it in theory. If your not confident get the dealer to do it....and of course don't blame me if you do it yourself and it all goes horribly wrong.

Hope this helps...I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other people on here who have done it too who will tell you if they did it the same way or not.
