For ages I had an annoying rattle/rumble from the front wheel/suspension on the driver's side mostly. It would appear on any but the smoothest road surfaces and would stop whenever the brake pedal was operated.
On changing my front pads I was surprised to find how easy it was to undo the caliper bolts (hand pressure on a short spanner). On reassembly I tightened these bolts to somewhere near the recommended torque of 70 Newton metres and I haven't heard the rattle since.
