Hi. Can anyone help? Our 03 Stilo is cutting out again. It happened some months ago and our local mechanic suggested a new battery which was fitted and the car ran well until yesterday.
After checking it out on this site we have today fitted a new crankshaft sensor, which for anyone esles info cost £26.29 incl vat from our local Fiat dealer in York. (when the old one was taken off the plug end was dripping with fuel) This hasnt solved the problem. The engine starts up then cuts out after a couple of seconds and the display shows 'engine fault' or 'alternator failure' (these were the same displays last time it happened)
The battery has 12.29v in when checked.
Has anyone any ideas please :bang:

Re this problem hubby just told me that on a diagnostic machine (not Fiats) it showed error code 05747 or maybe O5747 - undocumented code.
Have had battery on charge overnight to make sure it was 'full' and it still starts then cuts off almost immediately.
Please can anyone help - hubby is a trained mechanic and we are miles away from a Fiat garage.
Anyone got a  please

You'll need to state what engine you have.

Most faults on Stilos come down to bad earths and bad connections in general.

The Search took is your friend when looking for suggestions. Also check FAQ & Guides (at top of site)

Hi Argonought
Its the 1910cc 16v dynamic 115bhp.
Will look at FAQ's etc

Sorry, I'm being dumb (you put the engine in the title ) although I think you'll find your JTD is 8 valves.

Crank or CAM sensor failure is very common on this engine. Make sure the contacts are good on the connectors when replacing the sensors though.

Just telling you what it says on the reg docs - it says Stilo 16v dynamic - personally I havnt a clue and hubby is out at work.
Just tried to start it again twice and both times it fired up and cut out. First time it said engine fault, the second time it didnt say anything and there was no mention of alternator failure.
Hubby has worked on most makes of cars for 40 years but this one has got him baffled
