General My Perfect Stilo Abarth

Wow.. its been a while since i have seen an Alfasud Sprint Veloce.. of all the cars i've owned that was the most memorable.. 1st time i drove it was like trying to keep a kid having a tantrum still..really nippy car ;) and the popping sound from that exhaust was pure Alfa Romeo.

Whats the bodywork like Steve ?
Cuz i remember when I bought mine it was just 3-4 years old and some surface rust was allready appearing...Only kept it for about 8 months as every time I had a problem every mechanic that saw it would start preaching about how hard they were to work on and how expensive they are to repair..
As I was just a young Dad at the time, money was a bit of a problem so I sold it... regreted it ever since.. But i did sell it for twice the price i paid for it :)

The bodywork is mostly sound. They rust around the inner wings and bulkhead, but on my car they are very solid, no trace of rust. I had it up on ramps recently and I was expecting a horror story, but there is literally no rust. I did discover that the drivers side inner wing guard was missing and the muck being flung up inside the wing is starting to affect the panel, but I have sourced one now and I'm going to get the wing sorted before I fit it.

My car is a later model with the Alfa 33 mechanicals, so it's easy to work on compared with the early ones. I stopped listening to other peoples opinions about Italian cars a long time ago, everyone thinks they are an expert, especially people in the car trade. 9 times out of 10 they don't know what they are on about and are just regurgitating what they hear others say. Either that or they miss the point completely. My cars are all fun to drive, affordable and they make me smile when I drive them, especially the Sprint and the Panda. That's what it's all about in my opinion, and that's what other people fail to understand. :)

Well said Steve..............................

I agree with all of the above !!!

I'm sorry only 2/3 make you smile though, perhaps it's time to chop the Brava in for a Stilo to make it 3/3.

Re: Well said Steve..............................

Savi, the Stilo is like the Brava in the sense that it's a car that it essentially family transport. I love the way it looks, but both cars lack the feelgood factor that older Italian cars have. I'm getting bored with the Uno, it might be going soon. :) If I was chopping the Brava in it would be for a new Panda 4X4 next year or a 147.

Yep..................................

I agree with what you're saying!

As for the 147, it drives superbly, the chassis is much better than Stilo, but every time I see one, I'm still not 100% sold on it's shape/styling, there is something about it that doesn't quite click, personal taste I suppose.

The 147 is a lovely car to look at inside and out its pure Alfa ,I love the individuality of it . in fact it was my second choice to the Stilo Abarth...but when I tested one it just wasn't like the old Alfas' and I was a bit disappointed because I just didn't feel that power or Zip to it like I thought I would. It was just the 2.0 TS so maybe if I could afford the GTA then it would have been a different story..

Stuart, can we pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease have a pic of those dials on the MFD?!

I'm intrigued by this, and considering buying an 02 Abarth . . . .(searches Internet)

Pic of oil dials on MFD as requested :) - click on pic for bigger image.

EDIT - bit unclear, so try the flash one.....

Nice motor!

Nothing wrong with the 5 door, although the 3 door is sexier! Don't forget, this was my second car, what's your other car, TC? [this is when you come back and say an Alfa or something :(]
