Hi help please. Thought i had already placed this thread but cant find it anywhere. Last Friday i had my cambelt changed Stilo 2.4 Abarth 2002. When i collected my car the garage said i needed the 2 other belts changed but as it was late in the day they had been unable to get the belts in time, but as it was only a 1 hour job could i take it back Friday (Today) 9th Aug 2008. He changed the longer of the 2 belts, but no matter what he tried he could not change the other belt, it's the small one that drives the alternator and comes ofthe air con pump. He loosened the alternator and air con pump but no matter what he did he could not suss out how to get the smaller belt of and the new one on?

Anyone out there know how to do this? is there a special tool needed? i took a look at the belt in question and it is not in a very good condition, it is fraying quite badly and i am worried that it is going to fail and will loose my charging system. The Mrs drives my car now days more tahn me so i would like to get it sorted. If you can helpme i would be very gratefull.Thank you. :bang:

im not sure if its anything like the 1.6 belt but it isnt tensioned its classed at a "stretch" belt, and the best way ive found of taking them off is to put an old belt between the pully and belt by rotating the aircon pump by hand, then pulling on the old belt it should pull off, very much in the same way you take the tyre off a bicycle wheel, it needs to be levered off the pully,

Hi all thanks for the answers i think the garage mechanic is now quite embarrassed. He did not think about this.

Hi all just to say a big thank you, belt now fitted so my Stilo all up to date service wise. For future reference it does say on the altenator to air con pump the word "Stretch Belt" !!!!!!! Thanks again. :)

Each belt should have a adjustable tensioner, which works in tandem with the fixed pully, 2.4 and 1.9 jtd are simular in this arrangement.
