Hi All, this is my first post and I'm not a big car person, so please be gentle! :)

I've had my Stilo (1.2 active) since Jan 2007 and have known about this for ages - it's only recently I've actually decided to do anything about it!

The standard radio/cassette unit is fitted, but the buttons on the right hand side don't work. It plays fine, i've programmed buttons 1, 2, and 3 and the volume works, but it won't turn off when the middle is pressed, and I can't do anything that involved the buttons on the right hand side (e.g. mute, or 4,5, or 6).

I have a sneaking feeling that something just probably isn't plugged in right, and that I need to remove the radio to secure a connection or something, but will doing this mean that I need the code to input? I don't know it you see.

Can anybody help me confirm my suspicions/offer any help?

Thanks in advance,

Mel

You could try unplugging it as you wont need a code once replugged in but I doubt it is as simple as that! Sounds more like an internal problem to me in the head unit itself something like a dry joint. I would personally look out for one on ebay or something and possibly look out for the cd player type. Cheaper than taking it in for repair.

Or buy a new none fiat headunit and get a facia adapter, most of these can be bought with mp3 and bluetooth etc for aroud £80 these days and are fr more usable than the standard casstte player.(y)

I'm afraid it sounds like a fault with the actual radio or more precisely the wires/connection between the plastic front and the radio behind it...

As its a radio/cassette, its sounds like time to upgrade to something like this for example

Oh and welcome to FF

oh dear... sounds like more of a problem than I initially thought then. I might upgrade to something else then, I was happy with just the cassette as I usually just have my iPod plugged in with one of those cassette adapter things. Although I can get one like on the link where its got an adaptor.

Are they relatively easy to fit, I don't have to go wiring any speakers up or anything do I?

There ok to fit, just put some time aside to do it rather than rush it. i think u get a aux lead included with the kit above so thats ok.

The Iso lead adaptor sorts all the speaker wires out so none of the wiring is touched - may have to swap the 1 of the red and yellow wires over but thats ok and you may have to manually turn off the head unit as there is no ignition on when you change headunits - but there is a way around that if you really want the stereo to turn off with the ignition.

Where are you in the UK ?

That doesn't sound too bad then. I'm in Hinckley, near Leicester. Just been having a look at a couple of other stereo's on halfords/argos and stuff but am watching the one on ebay as it seems pretty good with everything included.
I don't need anything mega expesive as long as I can turn my ipod up nice and loud :p

Thanks for all the help everyone, btw (forgetting my manners:))

No probs, you live a bit far from Surrey - btw hit the thanks button on my post if any posts have helped (y) You could always go MITCAR on sunday if you need help fitting it.

Ah I was looking for a feedback button!
I will probably get one and give it a go myself when it arrives - if I mess it up I'll have to play the girly card and bat my eyes at a passing man lol.

Thank you!

Oh and by the way I love your yellow stilo - I wish mine was yellow!
