Hi All

As i'm sure you're aware, I've got a very noisy Stilo! The front and rear suspensions both squeak on uneven roads, and the front sometimes bangs. Unfortunately, my dealer (Sidwell Street in Exeter) cannot hear these noises, so I got my local garage to take the car out and check it. They came up with the following:

"Customer Advise : Play in nearside antiroll bar link arm. Lower engine cover missing."

Stiloactive had told me that his 1.6 Dynamic had had these link arms replaced and it made a difference. So, it's back to Sidwell Street (now with proof ) that there is a problem with the front suspension.

As to the engine cover, I've checked and the 1.2's and 1.6's dont get them fitted as standard (the ePER CD has them in brackets), but the 1.8 and 2.4 do; it's the same panel for all. I may just buy one and have it fitted on whilst they do the suspension.

ALSO, they've just got the Engine Management for the EOBD, and used my Stilo as their test run (I said yes btw). They found a brake light switch fault (Sidwell St fixed this) and cleared it. At £28.00+VAT an hour, I think my Stilo shall go to them when the warranty runs out - I can't afford £65.00+VAT for the privilege of it doing back to the FIAT network.

Stilo 1.6 Dynamic, 5dr, 2002, Crystal Green

Ive got noisy front and rear suspension on my Stilo - it drives me potty.

The rear subframe keeps getting re-greaced then 2 weeks later it starts again. Ive been told by chief mechanic that jet washing the car will wash away this grease and cause squeek to comeback. sounds silly to me!!!!!
Ive had this problem for 1 year and cars been in 5 times to be fixed with no success. Car is booked in on monday to be sorted with some new 'marine' grease.
As for front - ive had drop links replaced which did nothing then i had suspesion strut upgrades to make suspension stiffer, the noise seems to have gone (touch wood) but has developed a new problem: ROAD NOISE!!!!!!!AGHHHHHHH and premature front tyre wear to inside edges of front tyres!!!!! i dont think fiat checked steering geometry when they did this mod!!!!!!!My tyres have only done 5000miles and are worn and nearly illegal.
Im currently complaing to Fiat dealer and Fiat uk to get some new tyres from them as I feel this is their fault.
You should register your complaint/concern to Fiat UK to make them aware, the more of us that do this the better. They will also assist with the repair. Ring 0800 717000 and go to customer service.

Advice - get front suspension strut upgrade (if applicable) and make 100% sure Fiat do a full geometry check on vehicle wheels to check camber and castor not just tracking it will improve front rattle. then keep an eye on your tyres!!!!
As for the back if your car falls in a certain Chassis number there was a fault on the subframe design and you can get a new subframe under warranty. Mine is outside the number but still rattles, so all they do is grease it, therefore do not jetwash your car and you should be fine.

Your dealer sounds like mine!!! they can't hear my squeeks either - its really annoying!!!!!
My car does not rattle/squeek on rainy day or very hot days which to me suggests lubrication!!!!!

Have these new suspension struts done much to the cars handling? I had new shockers put on my first Stilo cuz that really rattled. banged, and clunked it's way along. but it did no good at all. My current Stilo gets noisey sometimes on the near side only, and then goes quiet again for a while. The brake pads have a tendency to rattle as well which doesn't help. The new drop links did improve it a bit, and got rid of squeaking on speed ramps. I'm gonna have a word with my dealer about these struts and see if they know about them. I think i'd like the suspension on my car to be a bit stiffer.
