Hi,

On holiday recently the Skywindow refused to shut (fortunately it was sunny). After some trial and error I discovered that moving through the switch sequentially would shut the window.

The next day was raining so we packed ourselves to return home only for the Skywindow to open moments before we set off. The curious thing is that the key wasn't in the ignition. So everyone out and I find a local garage who somehow help me to tease this thing shut, after which I take out the fuses!

I've spoken to two Fiat dealerships with Service Centers and neither have come across this before, so before this goes in to a garage next tuesday, does anyone know what is going on?

Thanks,
Steve

Well no, but mine refused to shut about 4 times now and I used the same method of going crazy opening and closing the switch it works.

You could try resetting the skyroof by pressing the switch in for 10 seconds.

It's never opened without me telling it to though, strange!

Did you actually speak to a technician (not a receptionist)?

Sounds like it just needs the learning procedure carrying out.

The system can be remotely operated from the body computer, and the system remains active for around 3 secs after switching-off the ignition. It's possible when the Body Computer powered-up it "woke" the roof ECU and it set itself into what it currently believes is the "closed" position.

All this talk of pressing the buttons until it eventually closes- don't you guys know about the emergency key in the ceiling unit which can be used to manually close the roof? It tells you in the owners manual.

only took a couple of goes at the button until it closed

Plus i didn't want to look like I had a cheap roof what you had to wind close :p

Thanks guys,

Switch in for 10 secs sounds good, - hard to believe that two technicians didn't offer that advice (and no, they weren't secrataries, or so they told me).

Key in the ceiling! - are we being entirely serious? :)

I'm not sure what learning procedure there coud be, despite my judgment being blurred by the pissing rain. Its behaviour was totally random except for the moment it followed the sequence of the switches. Sometimes I'd click forward and it would go 2 stages back, another time it would go forward.

The car could have been "woken up" by the doors being opened, but that was perhaps 15 minutes before the skywindow opened. The key never touched the ignition.
Perhaps the movement sensor triggered something when I placed my daughter in the car (it's on the same switch mount), but that seems to be clutching at straws.

Knowledge is power;) ....& garages are in business for a reason.

Yes,Danny is right in what he is saying.

Really?!!! That's cool then :) Sorry to doubt you Danny, I scanned the owners manual at the time and must have missed this. On reflection, it was a frantic scan!!!
Where is the key located?

You have to pull down the header console (which admittedly is quite difficult in itself) and you'll find it inside.

I suspect you left your keys in your pocket for the skyroof to open as it really is very common :chin:

I was once fitting a retaining clip to the rear wheel arch protector. As I carefully pushed the clip home I heard the skyroof start to open. Let go and it stopped. Pushed again and it opened further. I was quite spooked by this and started to wonder why on earth Fiat had laid the sunroof wiring down by the rear wheel arch.

 .....and then the penny dropped - keys were in my jeans pocket :D

Thanks, I know the electronic key opens the rear window of the multi-wagon but I had no idea they might trigger the skywindow.

Does the ignition key fit for the skywindow (as it does for the airbags)?
Do you think it may be an idea to get a Haynes manual (never a bad idea) for this job, or is there a description of the procedure for removal of the header console?

Cheers,

Steve

It should all be in your car manual Steve.

Stand in range of the car and hold the unlock button (keep it pressed) and prepare to be amazed. It's the one feature pretty much guaranteed to make other car owners sick with envy

Hint: Don't do it when it's pouring :D
