Has anyone any got an Abarth with reasonably high mileage?

A friend has an Alfa Selespeed and tells me they are fitted with much harder pads than the conventional manual gearboxes. He needed a replacement set of discs at 27000miles !

I'm wondering if the Abarth has hard pads too, as the brakes seem to have taken a long time to bed in, and work better after you warm them up a bit

Wife just had the front pads on her Matiz replaced, she's light on the brakes and still they only lasted 33000 miles.

Its pads these days that is the problem, no asbestos so they wear out quick as hell!

hang on a minute, your pads lasted 33k and your complaining? you did say pads right, not disks?

Paul, no help I know, but I am taking mine in too complain as one of my disks is scored - at 7k[:0]

Jesus James, the middle pedal is just for stopping, its not a foot rest! I did 40-odd thousand miles on part worn pads on my last Diesel! :p I used to stamp on my brakes when i owned my Saxo, and when i got rid of the the car at 33,000 miles the pads were still fine!

Stiloboy do you drive exclusively on open motorways?

When I had my Saxo (a lowly 1.1sx) I needed new pads at 18k, the guy at citreon reckoned they should only last 15k.

I guess I need to stop hammering my car:(

These days i do mainly do dual carriageway driving, thats why outright power wasn't an issue, and granted the same applied for my TDi. But my VTS was predominately used for back road blasting, 33,000 miles when it was returned to lease firm.

Then again a really good driver knows when to use his brakes, when to loose speed naturally, when to conserve energy! :I I've owned a mini for 4 years, i know all about them, blown away more powerful motors on the right kind of roads with the right kind of driving!

A mini should easy blow away more powerfull cars on twisty roads;) I found my 1.1 saxo to be a bit of a giant killer on the quiet, dispite what all the saxo haters would have you believe, they are excellent handlers, and surprisingly nippy, I was once following a guy in a Corsa Sport 1.4 16v down a country lane, sure enough in the straights he was getting away from me, but I caught him at every bend:D And YES he was trying:I

Anyway, about the pads, trouble is with my saxo much of my driving was town driving, not the best really;)
