Right i discovered this last night............if i pull a sharp u turn......at speed my oil light comes on. I did it once and heard a beep but didnt see what it was, so purposely did it again and it was the oil light! Any ideas on why?

Possible i guess, i shall check the oil level, havent done for along time

And if the oil light it on for any real length of time its too late! Flinging it around a roundabout with the light on for 30secs then your doing damage!

seriously though,any hint of an oil light and the 1st thing you check is the oil level.

I thought the Stilo was meant to tell you when your oils low tho?

You're relying on a load of electronics there though, get the bonnet up and check the dipstick!

I only have to look at myself to check that! But on a serious note i shall check it

Lights on the dash should be treated as too late lights! When the oil light finaly comes on it means you've knackered your engine! Oil light isn't a oil level indicator but a pressure light, and it'll be at something like 4lb.ft by which point the top of the engine will be shagged!

Some cars have a seperate oil level gauge, the Saxo VTS has one, problem is they are never as accurate as actually whipping out the dipstick and checking it with your own eye!

Does your stilo not have the oil gauge on start up stiloboy?

Don't fully agree, if the light just comes on for a couple of seconds and then goes off- probably not damaged engine, the pressure inside the engine when the light comes on still has a little to decay and there will be plenty still around. Still needs checking though.
I can't comment on the value given above as it's a torque for some reason ! ! ! ! Though normally expressed as lb.ft.... Guess you mean psi or bars ? ? but not sure.

However, if the light stays on for more time, I would be seriously worried. Obviously, the longer the light on, the more severe the damage done.

Ford Cougar V6 do this under aggressive cornering, they also start to smoke real bad to.

Is probably nothing

I never really thought it was a problem to be honest, just thought it was interesting.............plus i dont have a habit of pulling fast hard U turns
