Hi, The side door on my scudo combi 2006 jtd sx suddenly wont open by using the exterior door handle, however all works fine when you use the interior lever, therefore can anyone explain what has happened before I dismantle the door?

Thanks in advance.

Handle will be broken, comon fault. New one from dealer around £15 + vat. Remove top panel inside door =6 screws , unclip conrtol rods from handle. On outer check panel of door there are 3 screws holding in the handle, remove screws and remove handle. Remove lock by pressing a screwdriver into the slot approx half way down the barrel. Simply push the lock into the new handle and reassemble. Takes about 30 mins from start to finnish.

Is this a fix for the sliding door? I ask because my offside sliding door handle is flopping loose too. Near side is getting iffy too. After taking off the top panel trim I could see no way to remove the handle, No 3 screws that you mention on outer check panel (BTW; what is this?) were obvious? I shall whip it off again tomorrow to take another look in case I'm wrong.

Ah! Handle was held on by two torx screws in the door "pillar". Nylon latch had come out of housing on door handle...put back in and reassembled...tried door...same again...broke. So did all over again...lubed all moving parts in range of silicone spray...and adjusted locking plate a little looser...WORKING!

Whilst you got it working, go get a new handle so its ready. Believe me you will need it very soon.

What will this be down to, total fracture/breakage or the nylon peg slipping out more regularly?
The reason the peg slips out is a combination of wear and the plastic in the workings of the handle having a hairline crack, caused by weakness due to wear. It is hard to find and see but it is their. You have done exactly as I done in the past and it lasted about 6 weeks. The next time it breaks, someone will open the door and the whole thing will jam, then the door will not close and you will need to tie it closed until you can fix it.

Thanks fella! :slayer: That makes sense...methinks the other side is on the way out too

You mentioned a new handle costing £15-I have not been able to find one for under £40 each so far, am I looking in the wrong places or are we just talking about replacing the handle itself as a single component and not the whole assembly? TBH I have not asked at the main dealers-on assumption they are always more expensive.:D

Just checked old reciepts. Last one I purchased was 3 years ago from local fiat dealer and cost £17.68 inc vat

Well on my second door handle same door, still customers try to pull them off the Taxi...both purchased from Main Stealers....surprisingly only £25 still.

Main breakthrough though was to purchase a new lock mech, from a Guy advertising on this forum no less...Take a bow Fozzer and if you read this, A WHOPPING BIG THANK YOU! There was wear on the old unit that never pulled the cable far enough...perfect now!!:slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer:
