new satnav for £50 and update for maps

I got my Tom Tom off a friend on Club Cento. If anyone needs Tom Tom on the navigo I'll PM the links over, but unless you have BB it's very slow.

You'll either like the original or not. I went Tom Tom because windows managed to wreck the original SD card when I tried to put the update on. God, it's a crap OS!

For extra voices on Tom Tom there's plenty of stuff on Gnutella.

These are potentially fully functioning Windows CE devices: I might get another one just to play around with!

still doesnt beat my bargain
i got the garmin nuvi 310 for £28
ex-display but it was me demonstrating it so nothing wrong with it, got all the parts and more, plus i have the european dvd which a customer just gave me and since i got it recently, garmin is sending me a free version 10 upgrade :D

serious tho, get a garmin, theyre the more reliable unit, i have people coming into me all the time with cr*p units asking me for help, fact is that they didnt buy it from me or my department as we wouldnt sell them, we just say to their face, its crap, lol

ok ive decided to actually read about this sat nav
samsung processor? absoloute dung, overheats and will eventually melt. samsung are very poor at making computer parts hence theyre only in the bottom price bracket stuff
windows operating system: this is very dodgy as medion and all used to do this and they gave an awful amount of bother crashing, though a good device usually makes this a powerful combination

ok and one other thing to be aware of, lots of units are coming with maps like tom tom, eg sony etc. the reason is that it is made by teleatlas who produce the vast majority of maps, even google map, but the problem is that they are all different versions, navman and tomtom seem to have the most up to date versions, these are more than likely old

if you want a cheap but great unit, my favourite cheapest unit is the f10, its 80 quid in ripspeed though you can prob get it cheaper, faultless maps, good company, reliable unit

My satnav, a Mio268+ runs a Samsung processor and was working around 24/7 on last summer holidays under the windscreen, the aircon blowing not from there, and there was no melting involved.

Mio, Navman and others run Windows CE which is fine for this purpose.

Tomtom 6 maps are awfully old, at least the ones you can get without paying. AFAIK the most up to date maps are on iGo/Miomap, Navman and Garmin

Fingers dude, did you manage to run the Mio software on it? It's my gf's satnav so access to it is quite limited :) It should run fine, and IMO is far superior to Tomtom not only in the way it looks, but in the way it operates and the routes it calculates. It is faster re-calculating routes when you deviate from it, auto-switches to night mode, you can customise the directions given, and many many things. Worth a try on the navigo (y)
