When I start up the car and it's still cold, and I made a sharp turn or a sudden stop, the error message "Insufficient Engine Oil Pressure Warning - turn off etc-" pops up. It doesn't stay, sometimes it doesn't even finish its own warning. Once the temperature gets to the midpoint between C and H, I don't recall seeing it pop up again. The Qubo has just had its MOT, they had put down as an Advisory Notice a slight oil leak in the filter but they said they topped up the oil in it (I didn't have time or money at the time to get it replaced then and there). Any thoughts on what might be causing this, or how serious it might be?

Have you checked the oil level? If not do so and top-up if required before starting the car again.
The symptons are that of very low oil or some kind of bolckage / failure of the oil pickup. If the oil is low again get the oil leak fixed. If it's OK you need furrther investigation probably dropping the sump to check the pickup and pump.
