Our 2004 Fiat Punto had to have the N/S Sun Visor replaced at 9K. The problem is with the internal tension assembly which causes the the visor to flop all over the place. The same thing has happened to the O/S at 12K. We cannot believe we are the only Punto owner this has happened to, however Fiat UK (contrary to our local dealer's experience) deny there is a problem. We have had the second sun visor on order since November and have been told by our local Fiat dealer that they are on factory back order. Meanwhile we have had to have the sun visor removed for safety reasons. To add insult to injury this is not covered in the third year warranty. Has anyone else had a similar problem ?

They certainly are a problem. The driver's side visor on our 2001 Punto has had to be removed, as it was flopping all over the place.

The plastic 'prong' which projects from the fixing plate into the visor was encased in some kind of mastic gunge which seems to have worn away.

I've never heard of this before in other makes of car, but Fiat seem very good at cheapo solutions to everything...

This happened to my 1999 mk2, it just flopped down about 2 weeks ago and had to get stuck up with gaffer tape. I ordered another one from ebay for £25 (ouch) and replaced it. cut the old one appart to see what the problem was and its a small metal part that enables the snapping motion that locks the visor in place had cracked at the top. I thought this was cos i use the visor alot but it seems a few of us have had problems.

the n/s sun visor on my 2005 punto active has the same fault, just flops down, unsure as to how to remove visor. unscrewed visible screw but visor remained firmly fixed to roof there must be a second screw hidden behind plastic "cap" but didn't want to prise out cap without further advice unless i did some damage help!!

pretty sure it's one screw each side. One for the clip and the other where the visor is attached to. It then slides out from the roof lining. just be careful not to tear or damage the lining.

should be able to find replacements on ebay.

Thanks Thombeal did what you said. It's held by single screw and slid to the right after the screw was removed. Now looking for replacement you're a champ!!

How does one unscrew the visor? Does one need a special FIAT screw driver or allen key? I've tried my own screw drivers and allen keys without success: can't get a grip of the screw head.

The visors on my mk2b have always been stiff to move and dont move very smoothly, (kinda move notchy, so you can never have it exactly where you want it, its either up at the windscreen, vertical or up on the roof.

Both sides are the same and its always been like it since brand new

I have a 51 plate punto 1.2. i cant say i even heard of this problem (being a new driver and all!) throughout the last year until i went to pull it down and it snapped. it was a case of either drive with it flopped down and struggle to see or drive with one hand holding it up. i had it replaced with a second hand one and then today (barely three months!) its happened again. but im glad to see im not the only one suffering from this problem!!

I have this problem also, my cheapo solution was to staple velcro strips to the visor and the roof. Never had a problem since, well apart from the noise it now makes each time i use it.:bang:

Hi
I have a Fiat punto 54 reg, Both my sun visors have gone the same way, they just flop down, Both over the christmas period ,

I have 2005 Punto and my O/S sun visor suddenly gave up and flopped down. I have been able to turn the N/S one round no problem and use that even if it means dazzling the oncoming traffic with the vanity mirror. I don't mind buying a new one but it seems that there is always some little annoying thing going wrong with the car.

I am now having trouble with the heater/blower which will only work intermittently but will work if I hold the knob in and only then on full speed. I am just hoping the electric window mechanism doesn't fail or I'll be flummoxed. In the rain I have to keep the windows shut and use a demister cloth to see where I am going. Doh!

So glad to read that I'm not just unlucky, I'm about to buy my third replacement visor in three years!
both other times its happened I haven't managed to find replacements at local scrappies and even a local guy who will trawl all the local scappies for you (for a 10% mark up) couldn't find any which would seem to say that lots of people have had same problem as all the puntos in the scrappies already had theirs removed.
anyway just to say that I've managed to get 2nd hand replacement via DA Autos each time, you can get a quote from them via the online parts gateway and they are really quick and very friendly and both times the parts have been good.(y)
Off to find me sun glasses now til the next visor arrives...as usual its the driver side that has broken:mad:
