Hi guys,

Total noob so please be gentle. Also, I don't really know the first thing about cars! To make it more fun, I also live in Portugal and garages aren't quite the same here as they are in the UK.

I have a Fiat Punto MK1 1.7 SX TD from 1996. It broke down the other day (knocking noise from the engine and lost all power).

The local garage have told me it's the turbo unit which has failed and it's not worth replacing. Another garage has said they might be able to help but they need the reference number of the turbo unit.

Where do I find the turbo unit? I've looked online and know roughly what the turbo should look like but I don't where to look in the engine compartment.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I believe it's under the air filter housing. If you remove this, the turbo should be visible

Its at the rear of the engine mate. As told if you remove the air filter housing its easier to see but difficult to reach. Have you been told if the turbo is seized? Had the same problem on a td punto where the turbine seized and lost power.
