doing alot of driving in my 1.1 mk1 so i wonder do i need to change whole oil if i constantly just top up?

at how many kilometers from last oil filter change should i change it again?

last time i changed oil filter was on 20.6.2015 at 127756km
changed it again today with whole fresh oil and currently on 144793km
thats 17073km between

Even when oil consumption is high, just topping up is only adding a little fresh oil at a time. If it is burning oil, it is leaving soot in the oil, which should be caught in the filter, but the remaining oil will suffer degradation. So it is still a good idea to change the oil and filter at the recommended intervals.

Mileage / kilometres is only a guide, it depends also on your driving conditions. A lot of driving in city or hot or dusty conditions will deteriorate the oil quicker so change it once per year as a guide, even if it is 10,000 km say. Otherwise for those engines the guide would be 12,000 miles / 20,000 km or once per year.

I think if you are driving a lot then your car use is probably quite friendly to the engine so your change interval seems fine. You don't say how much you need to top up the engine oil but obviously you help to keep it fresh when you add new oil.

Remember that the capacity of these engines Is small, maybe 3litres including the filter so it is good to keep it filled with a nice quality oil and use a decent filter brand like Fiat, Mahle, Bosch...

If you want to reduce oil consumption on an older engine you can try Valvoline Maxlife 10W/40. It is designed to refresh the seals and clean deposits.

3,47l goes in
i have been putting in 10w40 all the time
what about thicker oil?
when i was still measuring consumption i think it was drinking 1l in around 3000km, no leaks anywhere tho
its mostly city driving, but also driving in 5th gear

Do not use thicker oil.
Do not confuse oil thickness with its film strength or other abilities.
If thicker oil will not pass along small oilways as it should, you end up with oil starvation and damage.

Think 3-in-1 oil, or tar? Both are 'oil', but if that was the choice, which would you use?
