Punto cabrio roof issue

I hope anyone could help me to sort this out
The electric roof is working but the end of the inner roof is folded and not closing completely. so I can't see anything behind me in the mirror.

Checked out inside the car and found this:

Does anything needs to be connected to this pin?

Also, what are these?

This rubber band isn't connected to anything

On the other side, some of the plastic is broken so there's no pin

Also that rubber band

This thing covers the metal but one of the rubber band is ripped off. can I just glue the fabric to the metal?

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Yours looks more obstructive than mine (attached) - it's not good - use mirrors, like a truck! The pin I think is where the tonneau cover poppers on - but who uses that? The straps should have a matching strap end to buckle to - used for adjusting tension. When the hood is up you can get your hand in there to see if it's tight or what, then lower, adjust, try again. I found they were preventing the hood from meeting the screen top easily - I let out nearly all the tension. BTW, you know to let all 4 windows down a crack when closing the hood? makes locating/locking much easier.

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Next time you open the roof, stop when the roof has opened to the point where the front section is about vertical. Now check the position of the central reinforcing bar which is located above the rear edge of the door. This has a tendency not to fold back as it should, which means the roof will not open fully and it also creates a scissor action on the hood causing cuts either side of the roof above the rear edge of the door. The solution is to gently move the bar backwards when the roof in in the vertical, before opening it fully.

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Hi
You are right, it does folds the center part of the hood and makes cuts on the sides of it:

I can't seem to fix it when I help the roof with my hand.

There are these 2 upper straps that aren't connected to anything:

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Yes, I can see your problem, a useful set of photographs. You should be able to move the central bar when you have the roof in the position in the second and the last photograph. It should move quite easily from the two o'clock position to somewhere between 11 and 12 o'clock. This is a common problem as you will see from all the Cabrio's with cuts to either side of the roof.

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Sorry didn't understand you very well.
What is the central bar? the big base rubber or the rubber that folds 180?
Should I move it manually or just arrange the fabric so it won't get inside the bars?

It looks like it'd fix the cuts problem but not the inside of the roof that folds into it in a weird way:

From this video:

I can see that on mine, it folds on the inside and something is wrong there.

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Sorry, I'll try and explain myself better. In the last photo of the series you posted earlier, you will see that there is a metal bar running above and parallel with the side rubber. Halfway along this bar is another metal bar which is hinged from the first bar and runs from side to side across the roof. In your photo it is angled forwards (the two o'clock position). This is your problem, as it is preventing the whole roof from folding properly. The bar should be angled further back, either straight up from the hinge, or angled back a bit. This will fold the roof further back and avoid pinching it.

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Thanks alot! Moved that bar, it was easy to move and the results:

Is there any way to fix it so it could move automatically or should I move the bar manually every time?

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

Glad you got it sorted (thank you Blu73 for correctly identifying the bar).

I am afraid that the only reliable way to ensure that this bar is in the right place is to do it manually.

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

This is exactly why there shd be a separate Cabrio section of FF, so all this arcane advice can be in one place - as well as lots of lovely pics!

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

thats the silliest statement you have ever made fella....

Cause the cabbie is so so different from a normal mk1 that none of the info is appropriate and cause the mk1 section is so massive and busy

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

I know it's not going to happen, now, but wd have been a gd idea when lots were around. Ocourse Cab owners wd still look at the mk.1 forum too, but there's a special vibe and different 'community' amongst Cab owners, and in fact a great deal that's unique to Cabs.

You might as well say
"Cause the mk.1 is so so different from Puntos generally that none of the info is appropriate and cause the mk1 section is so massive and busy"

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

mmmmmm, if you say so.. Just sounds ridiculous to me, if any mk1 was split from the main section (which clearly it isn't anyway) then i would say that would be the GT - as it really is completely different to the rest of the mk1's. I appreciate the cabbie is slightly more than a punto with roof chopped off but it does share suspension and engines with the sportings.

Re: Punto cabrio roof issue

In fact, why are the mk.1 and mk.2 split at all? On that basis, they're not that different. Uno mk.1 and mk.2 never were, not even UT.
