Firstly I'd like to say I'm glad to be a member of this forum
I was looking on a website not long ago at performance upgrades for my 1997 Punto 60. Would it be worth the hastle to fit a performance camshaft or just the basic air filter and a good clean up?

There's a fairly good chance you already have the 866 (aka P75) cam in there -- if so, it'll have 866 stamped on the cam. It's a nice cam, not overly lumpy, good for street use, and you can still find them second hand (but do check the condition).

Together with a larger throttle body (tricker 40mm or a converted Punto 75 one) and decent inlet (the Poles probably do the best affordable stuff) it'll really help.

first things first though, car should be well serviced before you start doing any modding. check with your insurers before carrying out any mods.

If I fit a new Air box, will I need to get anything re mapped or re jetted or anything like that? Silly question I know but I'm learning :L

No. But you -- and the engine -- will barely notice the difference.

exhaust and induction will also help and give the best noticeable gains for a small n/a engine.
other than that there really isnt much point modifying it too much.

however, if you were interested in an exhaust i have a full Peco stainless system for sale, pm me if you would like to know more?
