Hey Forum, I'm new here so hopefully i can find the information from you lot of knowledged people!!! :p
I have a fiat Punto mk1
I recently changed my valve cover gasket and Oilpan with the help of a mechanic in my family, And since then my battery doesn't seem to be getting charged. Or at least the charge isn't getting through.

I have used a battery tester and the battery stays at 12.4v with the engine running when it should be approximatly 14v.

The the auxillary belt is running and the alternater turns over if i get the car started with a jump power unit. Is there anyway that i could have disturbed wires while changing the oil pan or what else could have happened with engine calibration.

Also since then i now have a (what looks like an injection) on the dashboard, To which i have researched as an ignition fail light..... that burns and if i press the accelerator pedal it seems to misfire, BUT the sparks are only a few months old and the problem wasnot there before my messing around.

I look forward to what answers or suggestions i might get, And would be very grateful from you all.

Thanks!!!
Dale.

It sounds as if something has been disturbed. Perhaps one of the earthing points was disturbed when removing the valve cover.

What engine is it?

Check all the electrical connections to the alternator.

It is a 1.2 Petrol engine,

I will take a look tomorrow at the connection points.

I had to take the air filter off to access the valve cover, So it is very likely a disturbed wire.

I will let you know if i find anything.

Turned out to be the alternator was dead. Tested every wire and came up. With nothing.
