hi all i have a punto 1.2 Treg and in the last week or so i have seen that it is over heating in very short time and i seen a guide on here on how to bleed a radiator so i did all the steps on the guide then i seen water comeing out of the water bottle and the fan did not kick in any idears what the problem may be ?

thanks lee

fill and bleed while running ,other bleed screw on heater hose, check that both rad hoses get hot so we know water is getting circulated,if not stat may have stuck closed and water expands when hot, sometimes you can hear a thump thump as water is boiling in engine trying to get out:bang::bang: keep on on temp guage as it should not go over 3/4 as fan cuts in slightly over 92.

ok then thanks dirtyhands a was going to get a new stat and put that in a see how it went and yer i hear a thump b4 but i still not heard the fan kick in so i fort that the fan mite of gone but will find out 2moz when i put new stat in then do as u seuggest

If you're getting an over-pressurised cooling system then you may have a head gasket problem.

Bleed the radiatore again. If you have air in there, let it all out. That will allow coolant to get back into the radiator so the car won't overheat.

If you get air in the radiatore again, then it's the head gasket.

Change the water pump and cam-belt and tensioner at the same time you get that work done.. Flush then refill the whole system with the pink coolant/antifreeze (50% pinky and 50% distilled water). It'll make sure that end of the motor doesn't need any more attention for the next 3 or 4 years.

If you have no air in the rad, then the problem could be a duff 'stat (as mentioned) or a knacked water pump... but a jammed-shut stat' is less common than head gasket failure. Normally old thermostat's get lazy and stick open...

Always use anti-freeze. People think it's there to stop the engine freezing but 95% of the time it's job is to stop the cooling system components from corroding. HG and thermostat will all last waaaaay a lot longer if you use the 50% pink stuff.
