As the title suggests i just need a bit of advice to de-tango my headlights. Taking my headlights out to seal around the grommet and basic sealing overall to get rid of condensation.

Anyway i thought since the bumper and the headlights were out i might aswell make the most of it and de-tango the indicators!

How is this achieved? Whats making it orange? How hard is it to take the lens off and back on,just general info on this?

Would also appreciate pics if anybody has some!

Thanks in advance

I would imagine the orange plastic is what makes them orange....;)

To de-tango them, put clear ones in.:p

I'm 99% sure that its a full orange plastic filter, so you would need to swap the whole indicator unit for a clear set.

Hi mate,

If your talking about the Mk2 (going by your avatar) then you need to remove the Front platic lense of the headlight. You can get it with a dremil or similar. Then you have acess to the orange indicator cover inside. This removes easily. You then need to replace the indicator bulb with a silver effect indicator bulb. Or plain orange one (will look rubbish) Then repalce the front lense using superglue and silicone sealent.

Hope that helps,
Alan

Apologies, I was talking about a mk1.

:)

I did this on my 8v earlier in the year. Bought a set of spare headlights to do it though lol, so I could still use the car and just incase I made a mess of it...

Got my old lights taken off ready to be cut open.

Went down to B&Q, bought a pair of grips, pack of hacksaw blades and some clear silicone sealant.

Snapped the blade in half, gripped it then started cutting through the edge of the lense. Took a good few hours each to get them cut open, I was going at a steady pace making sure the innards didn't get damaged.

Once open the orange cover can be unclipped using a screwdriver. Then just lifted out (the easiest part!!!)

Once both are out use a hoover with some compressed air to get all the dust from cutting out. Try not to touch any of the chrome parts as it comes off pretty easily, I got away with lightly wiping them with a cloth but on one part I rubbed a bit too hard and the finish start to come off.

When you have made sure you've got all the crap out you just stick them back together with the sealant!

Edit: Sure I took pics whilst I was doing it but all I can find is finished ones lol. There is a full guide in the members section on PuntoMk2.co.uk

Well worth it if you plan on fitting clear side repeaters and Mk2b rear lights with some Silvatec bulbs hidden away in them all.
